This is just a reminder that we will be taking the news server down later this evening to add a 100-base-T card in an attempt to solve one particular bottleneck wherein a 45mb/s satellite feed is attempting to squeeze through a 10mb/s ethernet pipe. I fully do not expect this to resolve all the news issues, but should help somewhat. Further resolution is going to require different hardware. One item I'm trying to find, some years ago I saw these boxes that you would put like ten EIDE drives into and it had controllers for each drive, would strip them into one large drive and then it had a SCSI interface that made it look to a host like one large SCSI drive. I can get 60GB EIDE drives now for $179 so this is one cost-effective way we could put together a useful sized news spool.
