The Revival of Quark, or, Bus Saga Pt.1

Spring 1993, up a fire trail off of Wildcat Canyon Road on the border of the Barona Indian Reservation.
I'm about to save the family Silversides, Quark, from abandonment and target practice by the locals!
I helped my family buy it in 1976 with my Army enlistment bonus, and they lived in it for 10 years,
driving it across the country from Ocean City, MD to San Diego, CA. in the process.

Now it sat, having driven up this fire road in the mountains to what could have been it's final resting place,
in repose...

Some of the things left behind

Come on in!               /        Basic pilot's seat

Echoes of the past

A repose about to be disturbed!

Craig considers the bulletholes in the old Pinto - there's a few in the bus, too.

The jobs you get called to in this business!

Looks ok underneath

Oops!                                 It has to be _backed_ up the driveway to the T-intersection!

The dogs will miss their shade!

Ready to go!

Obstacle course

Look out, dogs, coming through!

The expression says it all.

This is the single most exciting day in these dogs' lives!

Who says busses can't fly?

Down the fire road to the airstrip - and transferred to a lowboy for the trip to the shop in Lakeside!

Part two coming soon!
