The Chambers Creek Properties loop and side trails
The park, operated by Pierce County, offers more than five miles of trails, two miles of saltwater beach, two miles of forested canyon and creek, and a golf course that hosted the 2015 national open.
For more than 100 years, the primary activity on the site was mineral extraction and processing.  Lone Star Company had the largest gravel mining operation in the nation here until it closed in 2003.
Near the start of the loop trail, portions of some of the industrial buildings have been left to reflect the history of the site.
The trail then heads over several long rollers toward the bay,
until it turns up into a set of switchbacks in the forest.
You are rewarded for your climb with a high speed descent back to the beginning..
