The Olympic Discovery Trail crosses the Elwha River on a unique bridge: The trail deck is suspended by steel rods from the roadway above.
The 3.3 segment begins in Port Angeles, but much of the well-groomed trail is in remote forest.
A long downgrade precedes the approach to the bridge.
Before crossing the bridge, you can ride right down to the Elwha rapids.
The Elwha Dam controlled the river flow for a century, but its removal on 2012 allowed the river to run free once again.
The pavement for the Olympic Discovery Trail ends here until you reach the new section by Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park.
