Hogsback is one of many volcanic basalt cones in the area.  In fact, there are so many, this one has no name except the one I gave it for the ride.
It was recently clearcut except for a few bands of small trees growing right out of the bedrock.
The "hogsback" slopes down from the summit and abruptly ends.
A logging road winds up to the top, so you can begin your ride there or at the bottom.
Logs were pulled to the top or to a landing on a small shelf for loading onto trucks.
All of this makes for great riding now.
The side road to the landing
The landing offers a good view of Kelly Butte.
