The Milton segment of the Interurban is different from the rest in that it is not flat. It descends the hills between the valley and flats leading to Puget Sound, and it is surrounded by forest for its entire length.
To lessen the grade, a tunnel for the railroad was bored through the highest part of the hills.
The long climb is cut into the shady sidehill, with a large wetland preserve at the bottom of the embankment.
The top of the trail will eventually extend down the other side to connect with the Edgewood Interurban. In the meantime, you can travel surface streets for a few blocks if you want to continue on.
A great downhill descent awaits you on your return,
but don't forget there are other users on the trail.
