You can park in the large cul-de-sac at the end of 24th Street East. The bike bridge (straight green line at bottom of map) is the northern end of the Sumner Link 2, so we head north.
The newer trail starts at 16th Street East. A short spur here takes you to a trailhead and a dirt parking lot. Continuing ahead you cross the river again.
The new S-shaped bridge is made from a variety of materials.
The steel grate bridge decking allows you to see the swift current under you.
The trail heads north along the White River until it turns north to cross 8th Street East.
With high curbs and four lanes of traffic, you need to go up a block to the light for crossing.
The trail picks up again on the north side of 8th and leads to the tunnel under the Burlington-Northern rail lines. When you exit the tunnel, you have reached the bottom of the Vista Ridge Trail.
