During the Depression, Bob and Betty bought an eight-acre woodland on a lake twenty miles outside of New York City. Over the years, they built a unique stone house and rhododendron garden that have become landmarks for the area. Then, in their fifties, they moved across the country and started all over with a hayfield in Enumclaw.

Years later, you would see a six-lane freeway where this part of the lake is. Click here to see the house, garden, freeway, and half a lake from space in 2003.
