a day to stay in our foxholes, rest, and visit friends.
The fat kids Kite Centre ( a three-walled tent snuggled up nicely against his vw van ) became the official NFKA headquarters for the week. watching jeff make kites is always a treat. today he was working on his entry for the Handcrafted Kite Competition watching him use an airbrush while huddled against the wind and rain in a leaky tent was a special grin. the hornitos we kept feeding him helped the grins along quite a bit...
( wEd: Jeff built his kite using hand shaped bamboo spars and Chinese silk for the sail. These kites he builds are definitely works of art rather than simply craftwork. )
The primitive, but highly innovative tent-top water collection system grew toward its full capacity all day, hourly increasing its threat to deluge whomever was sitting in one very special chair reserved for the next newest arrival. That's ok, after 3 days on the beach, we all needed a shower anyway.
Ron brought out the 6 tyvek fighters he designed and constructed using ds' artwork on the skins. 5 were quickly traded for $50 NFKA donations and one was donated to the International Kite Museums Saturday Auction. Thanks Ron, a great idea!
Kirbys beautiful wooden fighter kite box donation to NFKA was ooohed and aaahhhed over by all. one amazing woodworker is that Kirbyguy.
( wEd: If anyone has any major crack-pot ideas how to go about
using Kirbys' box to it's fullest potential, please get in touch with our treasurer: Chuck Lund.   We need your help. )
David and Jeanettes gift of three elegant shot-and-a-half hornitos glasses wrapped in fine polypropalene was a highly treasured and valued surprise. the NFKA logo enameled onto each ensures avid and religious ceremonial use at the Hornitos Sing-A-Longs for many years to come. You guys sure have class, making the rest of us NFKA guys look more disreputable than usual. thanks so very much!
