it's hard to believe that less than a week ago today i was standing on the sand at longbeach along side a couple dozen of the best fighter builders and fliers in the entire western hemisphere... well ok, at least in the north americas... all gathered together for a week of flying, sharing, and a shot at taking home the 2001 shortline fighter kite world cup.
you've probably heard by now that a small squad of unsanctioned nfkanazis, in order to enhance the game with a little social adrenaline, pulled off a splendid hit-and-run organizational masterpiece that completely blew their preferred anarchistic cover... while disgruntled at first about all the rules and regulations and guidelines and spending money, everyone kindly tolerated this breach of nfka public policy enough to not grumble too much, to play nicely with others all week, to gladly assist in making the world cup a smashing good time, and to refrain from hanging the slfkwc organizers from the nearest flagpole after the first day... leaving me alive to finish this report.
first of all, please don't expect this report to cover all the wonderful nuances of the week that was... my goodness that would be impossible... but i promise to do the best i can with my failing memory... should you desire more information, feel free to ask questions of the flyers who made this week so special in the pacific northwest.
sunday ( or was it Monday morning ? ) bruce and i
flew the 2nd annual best of 100 point marathon... the winner
is the first to win 51 points... bruce flew an indian and i
flew a buka... because of the wimpy winds, bruce managed to
win this one... 92 points were flown during a 2-hour time
period... whew, what a trip! bruce managed to
turn his hands into disabled bloody hamburger patties just as i had
hoped, but, unfortunately donna kissed them and made them all better way
too quickly.
monday was an absolutely beautiful northwest day to welcome our foreign devil guests from other parts of the continent... nfka ordered up winds ( north 5-8k ) so sweet and smooth that, after flying all afternoon and strutting their stuff, our guest flyers went to bed monday night convinced they had indeed arrived at fighter kite nirvana.
monday night the northwest fliers held a secret high-level
strategy meeting to deal with the obvious... our guests had
proved to be much better fliers than we had anticipated so we needed to
act quickly if we were to stand a chance of winning against these rascals.
