Subject: [FK] official rules - 2001 slfkwc
Date: Wed, 27 Jun 2001 10:11:31 -0700
Please find below the official rules of engagement for the
2001 slfkwc
( SHORT LINE FIGHTER KITE WORLD CUP ).
These rules are specifically for slfcwc combat and were
developed to ensure a basic structure worthy of this important
competition... therefore, please note that these rules differ
quite a bit from the published official nfka rules which were written
to sometimes, and sometimes not, cover nfka's more informal monthly flys.
So, here they are...if anything seems grossly unfair,
please honk.
otherwise, see you in august...it'll be a hoot.
grins.

The First Annual Shortline Fighter Kite World Cup
August 24th and 25th, 2001
Washington State International Kite Festival
Longbeach, Washington
Mandatory pilot meetings held at 8:00 am Friday and
Saturday on the flying field.
Combat commences at 8:30 am both days.
The following Rules and Guidelines exist to promote a sense
of fair play for the sport of competitive kite fighting during the 2001
slfkwc competition. It is NFKA's wish that participants
conduct themselves as ladies and gentlemen so, by example; honor,
integrity, and common courtesy be the standard.
OFFICIAL RULES OF ENGAGEMENT
- Two flying fields... field assignments by random draw each morning
of competition.
- All flyers will be ensured an equal number of matches and consequently
an equal number of points possible.
- Round robin. Each match will be for 3 points. All points count over
both days of competition.
- Flyers will fly from within a circle on the ground. Any part of the
foot escaping the circle boundary will cause a loss of the point being
flown.
COMMENCING COMBAT
- Field judge will assure that both flyer's kites are in neutral
positions. " Neutral " is hereby defined as each flyers kite
being flown somewhere on their own side of the darn centerline.
- When the field judge is satisfied that both kites are in neutral
position, flyers will be asked if they are ready by the judge saying
" Ready Left ? " and " Ready Right ? "
Each flyer must respond by stating " yes " prior
to call for engagement.
- The Field Judge will then call either " Top " or "
Bottom " for the point being flown... as decided by
the judge's skillful manipulation of nfka's magic and very random
coin-toss indicator machine...fliers will engage immediately upon
that call.
ENGAGEMENT
- Flyers may not call time out once engagement has commenced. Judge or
field workers may call time out during engagement for safety reasons
only.
- Flying beyond the rope boundaries of the flying field at, or below,
the head height of a very tall person will immediately cease engagement
with point lost to offensive flyer.
- Acts of God count.
GETTING THE POINT
- Bridle touches count.
- No kamikazes. The winning kite must be in control after
the touch.
- All decisions of the Field Judge are final. If the Judge
is unable to decide the point, that point will be re-flown.
- Acts of God count.
GUIDELINES FOR TECHNICAL MALFUNCTIONS
- Kites may be re-tuned between points.
- If flying line breaks during a point, the point is lost.
- A kite damaged in flying a point must complete the point being
flown. Adamaged kite may be replaced between points
only. Opponent has the option to also change kite
at that time.
- Once a kite is launched ( meaning it has left the hand ), it must be
flown without adjustment until the point is over.
FINALS
- The 6 flyers with the highest number of points after both days of
competition will fly off saturday evening for 4 top positions.
- Round robin. Each match will be for 3 points.
All points count.
- Tie situations will be flown off using the 3 point, all points
count, system, using individual match or round robin as appropriate.
- Tie breaking fly-offs will be for 3 points round robin or two-flier
match as appropriate. All points count. Tie
breaking points are only that. They will not count toward
the total points won in general competition.
