A few people have messed up their system configuration using this tool, so I put up this page to make sure that you are aware of the potential damage that can be done to your system setup if you do not use the tool carefully.
The user of this software is assumed to be familiar with the basics of Mac OS X and Unix system administration. The following might help you decide if this means you: If you have never heard of NetInfo Manager, or would not be comfortable using NetInfo Manager to edit your user and group data, then you should probably not use this program (or spend time familiarizing yourself with the information presented in the Apple documentation referenced in the on-line Help before proceeding). If you're familiar with NetInfo Manager, but you would like a more convenient interface for user and group management, then this program is designed for you. Also, if you're familiar with Mac OS X Server's Server Manager, or you have edited the /etc/passwd and /etc/groups files on other flavors of Unix, then this program is designed for you.
In any case, please note that the program does not prevent you from doing things that "will totally screw up your system", like, for instance, deleting or modifying the system users and groups. The usual confirmation dialogs will be displayed, of course, but no special warnings will be given. Future versions may put up a warning if you attempt to do something that you shouldn't normally do, but the current software does not do this—you are expected to know what you are doing.
THIS IS ALPHA RELEASE SOFTWARE. For our purposes, this means that the software is still under development but is believed to be mostly functional (except as indicated in the release notes). However, it has not been thoroughly tested, has known problems, and likely also has problems that are yet to be discovered. It may cause your computer to spontaneously combust, or cause your spouse to leave you. Therefore, it is intended only for early adopters and the adventurous.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. To be safe, it is recommended that you backup your NetInfo database before using this program. Also, make sure to check the release notes for known issues.
That said, keep in mind that I'm developing this program in my free time and providing it to you free of charge. I do not have the time or resources to perform the kind of testing that is required to make the program bulletproof. I need your help to do this. So if you're interested in seeing this program improved, please use it and provide feedback in the form of constructive criticism and problem reports. Even better, if you're a software developer, download the code and fix the problems you find, then submit a patch.

Please include a description of the problem, including how to re-create it, the software version number, and any relevant console messages (from /Applications/Utilities/Console). If the program crashes, please attach the file ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/User Manager.crash.log, if it exists, to the problem report.
