The kernels I built did not work properly.  One machine just hung with a flashing cursor.  The other booted and ran and actually performed quite well however it would not respond to a USB keyboard and mouse so I suspect I removed some necessary hardware support.

     Not this week but in time I am going to build some kernels with the same configuration as the existing kernels with all the added stuff defaulted so I can determine if it’s an issue with that version of kernel or a configuration item.

     The kernels are identical configurations on almost identical hardware.  Nothing logged gives me a clue. On the machine that hung there are no error messages.
