In 1944 at the age of sixty-nine, C. G. Jung falls unconscious from a heart attack and is suspended between life and death. While in this liminal space, Jung experiences visions that would significantly impact his life and his life’s work. Jung’s deep depression following his heart attack is a common post-cardiac phenomenon, which places patients at increased risk for further attacks. Jung’s three-week engagement with his nightly post heart attack visions allows him to reengage in the world and produce "a fruitful period of work." Jung writes in Memories, Dreams, Reflections: "A good many of my principle works were written only then [post heart attack]" (297). This lecture will focus on the archetypal significance of Jung’s post cardiac visions and their relevance to the individuation process leading to new insights.

In this workshop we will journey through Jung’s visions following his heart attack via Power Point images approximating what he may have experienced. Jung provides vivid details of his astonishing visions in MDR, which we will analyze as dream symbols, thus mining for richer insights in our collective setting. The range of this material includes: outer space experiences, a primal visitation, an alchemical wedding symbolizing the dramatic deepening of Jung’s personal individuation process.
To deepen the personal experience Anne will lead the group in Kundalini Yoga breathing and/or seated exercises specifically targeted at the heart during specified intervals during the workshop.
