de Vore photoIn a time when therapists are pressured to limit our work with clients to cognitive, short-term, solutions-oriented therapy, I would like to explore the value of long-term analysis with one person who stands as witness to life as it grows, changes, flourishes. In this lecture I will draw from my own analytical work with David Hart. When choosing an analyst, it is important to know the sources of influence on the analyst. David worked with Emma Jung and C.A. Meier. The gifts of those analysts through David to me are theoretical as well as relational. I will explore Meier’s theory of trans- ference and the importance of dream-centered work, based on his study of the myth of Asclepius. I want to discuss the power of the simple act of sitting with one person, of being witnessed over the course of many years, and of the grace of receiving a gift of feeling.

Traditional Dream Work according to C.A. Meier

Workshop: Saturday, February 12, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Good Shepherd Center, Room 202, 4649 Sunnyside Ave. N., Seattle
$50 members, $70 nonmembers

Over a long day we will explore several key elements to Meier’s approach to dreams:

Bring journals, plain paper, Crayolas, or colored pencils.

Learning Objectives:
To learn the key points of C.A. Meier's approach to dreamwork:
1. The entire dream record is considered in the approach to dreamwork, not just interesting dreams, or only those dreams that seem related to the therapeutic goals of the dreamer.
2. Determine the central image of the dream and in the discussion of the dream, restrict associations to that image and to the attendant feelings/emotions within the dream.
3. The process of amplification is the process of dreaming. Each dream is a comment on the dreams that came before.
