The view of a garden changes dramatically with even a small difference in elevation. Since benches are places to sit and look, they are ideal for such a change in perspective.

I have used two methods of elevating a bench or chair: raising the seat and raising the furniture base. This bench in the native garden uses both. A five-foot dirt mound and a four foot climb to the seat place the viewer well above native garden home.
