Removing a White Birch

back to White Birch Bench

The birch tree grew close to a house and leaned over a fence and manicured landscaping, so I decided to remove the two tops and all the branches first. I then secured the trunks with ropes at the eight foot level to higher trees, so that when cut at the seven foot level, they would flip over the fence with the bottom suspended in the air. (I also wanted five six-foot sections for the bench.)

We carefully swung one trunk around from the high stump and lifted it over the beds. Notice the attached branch stubs, left on the tree so they could become the crosspieces of the bench A-frames.
