The Chatcolet Bridge is probably the most unique feature on the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes. It was originally a railroad trestle that swung 90° to allow larger boats to pass. When the railroad was abandoned, there were no longer funds to pay a bridgemaster. The solution was to raise the jack the trestle high above the water and build stairstep ramps on either side. The steps allow for an easier climb than a continuous grade and make for a roller coastser descent.
Most people riding to the bridge or Plummer start in Harrison, where there are restrooms, water, parking, restaurants, and ice cream.
On the other side of the bridge, the eight mile uphill to Plummer begins.
Finally, the Palouse hills of Plummer.
