Employer/employment: I've been working at Boeing for the last eight years all in the Fabrication Division in Auburn Wa. I have worked in the Work Transfer Group (Offload) for the last five years. My organization handles Tooling requirements that get placed outside the company. We currently have 97 active suppliers ranging mostly in the state of Washington. The majority of our suppliers outside the state of Washington are in California and Detroit. We also are working with Suppliers in the former Soviet Union (CIS) and the Czheck. Republic.
For the last year and three months I have led a project team ranging across three organizations in developing an Electronic Commerce System with this supplier base. Representatives from Tooling Procurement, Information Systems, and Work Transfer have successfully planned, developed, and implemented systems that have automated approximately 90% of our overall operations. We have seen dramatic improvements in Delivery, cycle time reduction, and Quality to the point that we have now become the preferred supplier within Boeing's Fabrication Division. This work has been very rewarding for myself and I would like to continue working in the Project Management field to sharpen my skills. Although this project I have led is going to turn out successful it has been a very long painful journey to say the least. Because of my lack of Project Management experience I have had many tough lessons the long hard way. I'm seeing everyday how basic PM principles can be applied to every project phase to help an inexperienced PM like myself get through the tough times.
