Eric,
-> Vent-users,
-> I'll throw my 2 cents in on the subject. I'm not a fan of
-> non-invasive
-> ventilation. For what it's worth, I was taught GPB(frog breathing)
-> when I was in the
-> hospital, and if you hold the end of your tongue against the roof of
-> your mouth a little bit behind your front teeth and pull your jaw and
-> the back of your tongue down( keep your
-> mouth closed), you can pull in a small amount of air through your
-> nose each tim e you
-> pull your jaw and back of your tongue down, helping you smell.
-> Eric
I find that I'm able to smell things if I inhale through my nose
very quickly because the breathing effort adjustment on my vent is slow
enough that I can inhale enough of a small breathe to smell things. I
found out this doesn't work so well with a trach with a cuff, just a
cuffless one.
Also, this works in order to pull some air through pursed lips,
just in case any of you out there in "Ventland" want to toque a little!
;)
