suction bottle odors

Hi,
I usually lurk and just read everyone's postings. I am a nurse who takes
care of a young man who is a c-2 quad, completely vent dependent.
We don't have any problems with suction equipment odor. Every night on the
night shift we first put hydrogen peroxide through the tubing and the y
connector.
If it foams and we can't get the foam out we use a catheter syringe and
blast it out. Then it is rinsed. The cover and the bottle are cleaned with
bleach and water and scrubbed lightly with a brush. Then we rinse and soak
the whole thing for 20 minutes in a solution of a "slosh" of bleach and hot
water. We use a bed bath basin for the soaking. So far 6 years, no odor.
I don't know if this will help anyone.
