This is my first posting to the vent users group. I'm a 42 year old guy
with Duchene Muscular Dystrophy. I have a trachiostomy and use an LP-6
positive pressure ventilor. I use a Shiley, size 4 trach tube and a
Passey-Muir talking valve. I require ventilation for 24 hours every day.
I've had a reasonably good experience having a trach. The talking valve
helps me to talk better usually. Sometimes air leaks out of my trach
assembly or between my stoma and trach, making it more difficult to
speak. I need air to stay near my vocal chords constantly to speak
consistently.
Has anyone out there who uses a trach who has experienced a chronic
minor throat infection which varies in severity every two weeks or so
with inflammation of the throat and back of the mouth? If you have
experienced this, have you found a way to cure this problem or lessen
the symptoms? Please respond if you're able to help.
If you want to learn more about my experiences with a trach and
ventilator please write if I can be of help.
This is a great forum for us ventilator users.
