In addition to not being manufactured, I have been informed by
my medical supplier that the company will no longer provide routine
service for existing machines after September '97. :-(
As a longtime LP-6 user, I am quite concerned about the prospect
of having to replace my aging vents. Here in CA, our state health care
system, Medi-Cal, is being "transitioned" into managed care. HMOs are
notoriously bad at providing persons with disabilities and the
chronically ill with costly Durable Medical Equipment (DME), not to
mention giving a person a choice of what equipment they get. They (HMO
exec's) don't (or more likely won't) get it through their thick
capitalist skulls that not all vents (or other DME) are the same and may
not be suitable for every person. This is a perfect example of what
happens when you put the "bean counters" (accountants) in
charge of our health care system.
