I am an RN. I have cared for a varity vet-dependent clients in their home
over the past 4 years.
All my clients have had their vents used via tracheotomies. All have used
Humidity . The more humidity that the client needed was dependent on their
tracheal secretions. If the secretions are thin in consistency and the client
needs excessive suctioning, then there is too much humidity and the heat
needs to be turned down. If the client is prone to mucous plugs and the
secretions are very thick and hard to suction out, then the client need more
humidity.
One always has to be careful with the water in the humidifier that it
doesn't spill into the tubing and drown the patient.
I have have a question. Has anyone heard of a folding, portable wheelchair
that has a vent tray? my client can get in and out of their car easily, but
on arrival to destination, she uses a wheelchair that folds up in the trunk.
we put the vent in a baby stroller. needless to say, this takes up a lot of
room and needs two people to "push" . Any ideas? They really cant afford
a van right now.
