I saw your post regarding the advisability and possible adjustment problems
your son Austin might have in living with a trach. I have had a trach for 27
years, but all as an adult. I think the tracheostomy with a ventilator would
give him some relief and he would feel better. After the surgical wound
heals, the pain is minimal. I am sure he would adjust. Trach care does
require some technical knowledge, but can be learned.
In addition to having a trach, I am a physcian - psychiatrist and would be
glad to try to answer any questions.
