As an ESE teacher, my first thoughts about the school situation is that the
vent care does not have to be written into the iep since school personnel are
not providing the care, the nurse is. I'll see what else I can find out.
Don't give up -- they have to provide your daughter with education in the
Least Restrictive Environment which, if her vent needs are taken care of, is
in a regular public school. People in education can be nervous and resistent
to anything they have not encountered before (as you know), but once they see
that your daughter's situation is not a risky one, they will relent.
(Everyone is so afraid of lawsuits these days).
And if something about the vent has to be written into the IEP, what's the
big deal?
Make them provide the education that your daughter deserves in the
environment that best meets her academic needs.
