trach change

I have been following the discussion about trach changing. I had a
tracheostomy done about 1 and a half years ago. After 3 months, I
started changing the trach from a Shiley to a Montgomery every
morning, and back again every night. The Shiley has a cuff that I
inflate at night. The Montgomery is soft silicon rubber, basically
just a tube with a plug on the exterior opening. There also is a
ring which keeps the tube from moving into the trach.

The changing of the tubes is not fun, but it sure is nice to get
that Shiley out. As somebody mentioned, it hurts like Hell for a
minute or two. Going from the Shiley to the Montgomery is easier
than the other way. I wish things were different and I didn't have
to deal with all this, but when all you have are lemons, make
lemonaid.
