Take the cure?

I occasionally speak to college classes and one of the questions I am
often asked is 'If you could be 'normal' would you?' I always answer no. I
am who I am. My personality has been shaped by my history and my history is
one of disability. If I were to suddenly become 'normal' I wouldn't know how
to act or react to my interactions with other people. I think it would be
like suddenly winning 50 million dollars. Winning that much money would
certainly change a person and I'm not sure it would change for the better. I
would imagine the same thing would happen to my personality.
That's not to say I don't envy some of the things ABs are able to do. But
everyone envies something or someone. Who doesn't want to be; beautiful,
handsome, wealthy, powerful, healthy, have a great lover, be wise, the list
goes on and on. The trick is to be happy with who you are. If you are not,
then your life will be one of constant longing and unhappiness.
