What's he (Quayle) doing there? I hope no one in CA is dumb
enough to let him cross the border, although Southern CA is pretty
conservative. Oh, well!

Thanks for sharing the story about the friend of yours who joined
ADAPT. It does me good to see other disabled wake up and smell the
coffee. Too many brothers and sisters seemed to have lapsed into a false
sense of security, especially after the ADA was signed. They don't seem
to realize the ADA isn't some magic cure-all, just a piece of
legislation. It can do nothing for us unless we use it to beat the
ableist establishment into compliance. We are guilty of great negligence
if we don't.

I am beginning to be greatly heartened by what I see as an
increased trend toward increased activism by a greater number of
disabled. Things will only get better for us if we seize the initiative.
More people are finally beginning to realize we have to make it happen
for ourselves. We can't depend on our ableist society to do it for us.
Besides, that isn't what I consider true independence anyway. See ya!
