Yes, there are some really good agencies out there to contribute to.
Since you are so connected to people on vents, I would suggest GINI,
Gazette, International Networking Institute located in St. Louis. GINI
helps all vent dependent persons regardless of age or what caused the
disability be it polio, MD, SCI, etc. Best of all, it is consumer driven.
Joan Headley is a polio survivor. The board of directors have
disabilities. I believe contributions should be made to organizations OF
not for persons with disabilities. March of Dimes? NO! They have
abandoned polio survivors. We're not lucrative enough for them to pull in
the bucks and people have to fight to get them to pay for vents. Centers
for Independent Living? Yes. They are almost always consumer directed.
ADAPT? Yes. They are struggling to keep the persons you work with out of
nursing homes. Anyway, that's my opinion. You asked a good question....
