I just got my first new chair in 8 years, in May. It's a great
chair, and I could whole-heartedly reccomend it to anyone. It's an
Invacare Arrow Series, Ranger X.
It has four adjustable speed ranges, controlled by a
microprocessor. Since I also have practically no motor function below
the neck, mine is fitted with a puff 'n sip controller. This controller
is simple to use and is adjustable for user sensitivity. It doesn't take
much breath to operate it.
Top speed is about 8 miles/hour on the top speed range, but on
the lowest speed it is very easy to drive around the house without
trashing the place. Speed, acceleration, turning speed, braking, etc.
all are easily configured. It comes with both a recliner and/or tilt
seat.
One good feature, especially for vent users, is there is plenty
of room to mount a vent underneath. A vent, and additional battery, can
either be mounted on the back with a special reclining rack, made by
LaBac, or under the front (like mine). The latter option, while
preferable, may not be an option for most because it is a custom made
device made by my dealer (Grandmar Inc. of Emeryville, CA). Although it
is so simple to make, any dealer with access to shop facilities should be
able to make one. I didn't like the LaBac system because it made the
chair clumsy and it stuck the vent too far out in the back. Good luck!
