Dentists

Hi everyone,
You know, on this list we have discussed many things. Topics of sex,
travel, good and bad doctors etc. I am thinking of writing an article
with your help about dentists. I have had very bad experiences with
dentists and I am terrified of them. When they plop the chair way back I
can't breathe. Even after I explain about the vent, the respiratory
problems, I may as well be talking to the wall. I am terrified of choking
and not being able to communicate to the dentist that I need help. My
husband goes in with me and holds my feet which I use to give him signals
when I am in trouble. Then come the dutiful lectures about not brushing
my teeth properly and the insults have been incredible. I guess my basic
questions are: What have your experiences been like? What recommendations
do you have for other vent users or persons with disabilities in general
when dealing with dentists? One dentist was sooooooo freaked out with my
blind husband, he spoke to him in a booming voice, enunciating every
syllable as if my husband were retarded. In some ways it was a bit
humorous. My husband got out of the chair and left. Unfortunately, many
of us don't have that luxury. Once I am in that torture chair I am
literally stuck. Anyway, what do the people on the list think? Thanks for
your comments!
Val
