Vent cost

Erika,
My PLV-100 cost the insurance co. $10,000. If I had purchased it, the
same unit would have cost $14,000. My insurance co. got fed up paying
$700. a month renting the vent. Few people own their own vents. You
wouldn't believe the dilemma that has caused me. No respiratory co. wants
to deal with me. I was told by Respironics two days ago that I don't fit
the mold! They are not accustomed to people like me owning/vs. renting.
Right after I wrote the letter about the need for 2 vents, my new vent
broke. I am in desperate need of thermo-vents (600) but no one will let
me purchase them. Maybe it's just this backward state of IN. They insist
I need a doctors note and that he needs to tell them my settings. As an
old polio, I know my settings better than the doc. I set them myself to
give me the best breaths. I know I sound real crabby today and I
apologize. My point is (I can get so verbose) when you rent, the
companies are johnny on the spot if you need them. Every month, they come
and check the machine. When you own the vent, you're lucky if you can get
them once a yr. Now I'm stuck with my old vent which makes weird noises
all night and the good vent won't be back for 4-6 wks. Good luck to you &
sweet little Bailey (I love that name)
