Christopher Reeve is the president of his foundation, wife Dana is the
VP. Barbara Walters is a bd. of director as is buddy Robin Williams. I do
not recognize the other names but none of the others are names in the
disability community. The employees at the National Organization On
Disability are federal employees making darn good money which is fine.
However, from the press release I have, wife Dana seems to have been
actively involved in selecting the few (8) organizations that received
grants. If Reeve is so concerned about back-up vents wouldn't it be
reasonable to assume that some money should have gone to GINI? I perceive
Reeve as an ego-maniac who is only concerned with HIS CURE! He said on
King's show, when the time comes for the CURE, he will slip off to Zurich
and be cured. He never speaks of lack of accessibility, employment,
Greyhound Busses without lifts. His teary displays only give ammunition
to the Kevorkian advocates. As you know, one of Kevorkian's recent
victims was a quad. Geoffrey Flieger, Kevorkian's attorney, said
Kevorkian did a great service by ending the suffering of the quad. "If
you think he had quality of life, just ask Christopher Reeve." I pray
that one day Reeve will begin to understand the way it is and begin to
perceive his chair as a liberator instead of "this accursed chair." Yes,
he needs time to grieve for his loss. But the rest of us are having a
hard time with the damage control he has wreaked with his self pity and
quest for HIS cure. Thanks Annette for sharing the AOL speech.
