When I first came home from the hospital after my trach, I slept in a hospital
bed in the living room. The rest of the family slept upstairs. This was a
concern to me, too, because I was still very weak and learning how to cope
with all of the new changes in my life. My husband got me a little bell with a
very LOUD chme! If I needed him to help me suction or something in the middle
of the night, I'd give the bell a ring. He's a pretty sound sleeper, but the
sound of that bell never failed to wake him up!
