Subject: Data on Deaths During Restraint/Aversive Procedures

TASH received a phone call from a newspaper reporter with the Hartford
(CT)Courant. The reporter is pulling together information on children and
adults with disabilities who have died while in restraint or while being
subjected to an aversive procedure. So far they have gotten information
on
38 cases nationally and think there are probably many more. Please give
us
information about the deaths you know of. The more details (name,
location,
date, etc.) you can provide the better but even if you only recall
general
information (state, facility, approximate year, gender of the person who
died, etc.) this would be helpful. You may email information to Marcie
Roth- marcie(AT)erols.com - by return email or to Nancy Weiss-
NWeiss(AT)tash.org.
If you have any newspaper articles, please fax them to Nancy Weiss at
410-828-6706. If you have questions, you can call TASH at 410-828-8274.
Thanks. Let us know if you would like to be informed about the results
of
this investigation.
