This is probably dramatically off the point of this list I noticed the
Jeff didn't have a Yoko to wreck his muse stuff was countered with that
Jeff had a bitter divorce etc - I knew that but when did that happen - and
has he been seeing anyone since that we know off (Juliana Raye springs to
mind as a possiblity - probably way off the mark but she is the only non
old time great that Jeff has produced an entire album - open to correction
here.)

What are the details of the row preventing jeff's second solo
album(although I have always felt that his first solo albums were called
Time, Secret Messages and Balance of Power) - I hope it is good - to make
a sucessful comeback it will have to be a lot better than Armchair Theatre
which is very good (one of my main car discs)but which was a bit quiet -
he needs a really big album with lots of stuff like Something Peculiar
which was Lynne at his very best production wise.

One final question to the world at large - has anyone heard the original
full Secret Messages (are the mixes of the songs different and am dying to
hear Beatles Forever-just like every other ELO fan- dreadful title)

There's a new ELO fanzine on the market, its cheap and cheerful and if

I don't know if anyone here has ever been to the state of Maine in the
United States, but if you are an ELO fan and are in the area in the
summer, you must stop at Funtown U.S.A. amusement park.....they have this
version of a scrambler in a big dome, that gets dark, has blacklights,
strobe lights, etc with projected images flying around the ceiling as you
go around.....with ELO's "Fire On High" playing as you ride....it's a
fantastic ride and the music and images fit well....it's definately worth
checking out if you are ever around here.

Just got back from the above, and it was fab! I shall try and fit in as
much as I can before I stagger off to bed...

Firstly the weather was awful - absolutely falling down with rain, and I
had to drive 2 hours in it each way! Never has 'Standin' In The Rain'
seemed so appropriate - they needn't have bothered with the sound effects
at the end, they could have just opened the doors!

The gig was very nearly a complete sell-out, with very few empty seats, and
the band seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves. Some members of the
audience were a little slow in getting going, but they all got there in the
end!

As has already probably been mentioned, there was no support, so PART II
did both halves of the set, with a 15 minute interval. Part One kicked off
with 'Fire On High', with the intro taken from the original 'Face The
Music' album. Coloured lasers whirled around the darkened stage, and over
the audience, and created eerie coloured patterns on the ceiling. The stage
lit up as the band came on, to Bev's crashing drums. Eric excelled with the
twiddly keyboard bits, and Phil played a blinder on his stand-up guitar.

Gem after gem followed - slowies, fasties, and many surprises. 'Honest Men'
came back during the first half, and also, Eric performed a beautiful
version of 'Love Or Money', which probably surprised everyone.

More surprises in the second half - who would have expected PART II to
perform 'Getting To The Point'?This was absolutely beautiful, and so nice
to hear it live - beautifully sung by Phil. There was a nice accappella
version of the Beatles' 'Because', sung in three-part harmony by Eric,
Kelly and Phil.

Another surprise was 'The Diary of Horace Wimp', as performed by Kelly -
who was the diary, the 'voice from above', and everything! On the Discovery
theme, we also got 'Midnight Blue' - gorgeous; 'Last Train to London' -
which had myself and some guys in my row doing our best Saturday Night
Fever impressions; and a stonking 'Shine a Little Love'.

Mik 'Clog Danced' his way through his solo, haring around the stage as his
usual whirling dervish self. As the first encore, Bev performed a solo for
the first time in yonks, which turned into 'Let There Be Drums', with Kelly
and Phil standing at the side, in front of Bev (who is also over to the
side now, rather than in the middle), twanging away like a couple of Hank
Marvins! Eric helped out on the bongos and tambourine.

Rounding things off as per usual was 'Don't Bring Me Down', which of course
brought everybody up... to their feet, clapping, shouting, singing along,
and banging on the stage. A great end to a great concert - shame about the
weather - even worse in the dark than in the light.

Roll on Ipswich next Tuesday!

Sorry Serena, no Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of
Radiation, i.e. - lasers, on this tour. What you witnessed were the
splendid scanning actions of the varilights, but they were still damned
impressive weren't they!

First time in years?????

Love foreign slang!

Glad to explain my slang to you 'foreigners':

"Blinder", "To play a blinder": this is just a euphemism (correct
spelling?) for fab, groovy, wonderful, and all things great. Therefore,
when I said "Phil played a blinder", I meant he was terrific!

"Yonks" - that's an easy one. This is just slang for ages. Therefore,
"first time in yonks" just means "first time in ages"!

Do bear with me, I did write that at half-past-one in the morning, after
driving for 2 hours in the pouring rain!

Hope this helps. Perhaps we should set up a slang dictionary somewhere!

From: Lynn Hoskins

Serena,

I love British slang, too! Would you mind explaining another?

Pfwoar!

I've seen it in Face The Music, and I've seen it mentioned here on the
list. It seems to be used when someone's real excited. Would you use
it to describe something at an ELO concert? How the heck do you
pronounce it?

Many thanks!

How do you pronounce "pfwoar!"? Well, if you've ever heard guys ogling
girls and going "corrrr!", it's rather like that - very long and breathy,
and pronounced "fwoorrr!", and used in exactly the same context (see
below)!

I'd certainly use it to describe something at an ELO concert (and I did,
too!) - Eric Troyer! Especially last night at Reading with the lovely long
hair restored. There are those like yourself that would use it for Bev; but
the guys would have probably used it for the go-go dancers in Sydney, who
are apparently on the "Access All Areas" video.

So get those pictures out and get "pfwoar"-ing!

Oh, I just have to reply to this one!!!!

>Pfwoar!

It's pronounced pretty much as it's spelled, but with more emphasis...
sorta

Phfwwwoooooooooarrrrrrrrr!!

It comes out like a long "four" but with a W after the f. :)

I think it could be used at a Part II concert - I've heard several
"Phwoarrrr"s aimed at Eric, several to Phil and the occasional Bev-
phwoar!! It usually means that someone's dead sexy looking, rather
attractive or "Oh, I say she/he's jolly nice" :)

As in... "Phwoarrrrrr look at the legs on that!"

Ahem.

Lingo lesson complete.

Twas wonderful at Reading last night - lots of people there that I knew
from here, particularly our resident Asian ELO web-pager extraordinaire,
Steve Greenwood - what a sweetie - lovely to see him again. Graham
Holland, Gary Holderness, Rob, Serena, Andy, loads of the Bunny-
brigaders.... it was like a get together!

Yes, but when you saw him did you say "Pfwoar"?

Jules, between your post and Serena's, I have tears in my eyes from
laughing. Thank you so much for the excellent lingo lessons! You guys
are great!

Almost all of the British slang that I've picked up I've learned from
VIZ magazine. I know that the Fat Slags say Pfwoaaaaaaaaar!! a lot.

I've tried to teach Lynn a bit of rhyming slang but to no avail.

I was just listening to One Night and All Fall Down... this has got
to be one of the best songs ever by ELO/ELO II! Does anyone know if
there is a plan to release it on a studio production, or was this our
one and only chance at it?
