=-=-=-=-= Society of the Rusting TARDIS Newsletter (#47, 09/23/96) -=-=-=-=-= >>> Items of interest to British media fans and Seattle-area residents, <<< >>> and whatever else I feel like spewing about. You have been warned. <<< =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= Do I have a good excuse for being late and/or terse again? You bet I do. I unexpectedly had to spend the night halfway up the side of a volcano. Sure, it happened a week ago, but it should be good for a _little_ sympathy. Anyway, as promised, this week's meeting is "Christmas in September" - an evening of Christmas episodes, including the kick-off of a new season of "Goodnight Sweetheart". Be there, or be somewhere else. On tap this time: Quick news items Latest "Red Dwarf" news Fire Destroys "Doctor Who" collection Upcoming SotRT events =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= Subject: Quick news items Sound bites: The second season of "Game On" has begun airing in the UK. Unfortunately, there is a new Matthew (presumably the first is pursuing a movie career after starring in "The Truth About Cats and Dogs"), and he is getting "unanimously terrible reviews". The second season of "Shooting Stars" begins its run on BBC2 this Friday. Robbie Coltrane ("Cracker") has just started filming "Buddy", a film that also stars Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) and Rene Russo. Coltrane plays Russo's husband. The film based on the true story of a woman who raised a gorilla as her son [Reubens?]. An upcoming episode of "Space Ghost Coast-to-Coast" will feature Matt Groening ("Life in Hell", "The Simpsons"). It will be the first "to be continued" episode, as Moltar escapes on a bus to Jacksonville. Local news: Festival Hong Kong at the Varsity: On September 26, "Rumble in the Bronx" (starring Jackie Chan) and "Full Throttle". On October 3, Tsui Hark's wonderful "Dragon Inn", and Jet Li in "Fist of Legend". Call 206-632-3131 for showtimes. Randy Rogel, Guest of Honor at Anglicon 8, will be appearing at the 5th Avenue Musical Theatre Company in "Me & My Girl" (10/15 - 11/03) and "Singin' in the Rain" (12/03 - 12/22). For info, call 206-625-1900, or check out "http://www.speakeasy.org/5thavenue". There will be an "X Files" Creation convention product in Bellevue on October 13th at Meydenbauer Center (1110 NE 6th. St). Mitch Pileggi [Skinner] will be there. The tickets will be sold through the mail by Pearl Jam. Um, not really. Miscellany: I just sat through the first episode of "Cosby", and the only resemblance it bears to "One Foot in the Grave" (the British series on which it is based) is, um, hmmm... The stars are both men. And neither features a dog with two heads. But other than that... (BTW, an episode of "One Foot in the Grave" will be airing soon at a Rusting TARDIS meeting near you. Well, near me, at any rate...) Hey, did I ever mention the "PythOnline" site? Well, now I have. It's at "http://www.pythonline.com". How about a Hugh Laurie fan club? TICLE (The International Club of Laurie Enthusiasts) has just published their first newsletter, The Laurieate. For more information contact "tvresources@toronto.cbc.ca". =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= Subject: Latest "Red Dwarf" news From: "Ryan K. Visitors to the exhibition, which includes original props from the BBC TV show, were led away from the fire at the Longleat estate in Warminster. Nobody was hurt in the blaze, which did not effect the historic Longleat House. An electrical fault is being blamed. Fans of the programme have been visiting the exhibition for 23 years. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= Subject: Upcoming SotRT events Sep 25: Video night Round Table Pizza, 5111 25th Ave. NE, Seattle Oct 01: Social Round Table Pizza, 5111 25th Ave. NE, Seattle Oct 09: Video night Round Table Pizza, 5111 25th Ave. NE, Seattle Oct 15: Social Romio's Pizza & Pasta, 3242 Eastlake Ave. E, Seattle All events start at 7pm unless noted.
