Subject: Quick news items

Sound bites:

The Spice Girls newest video was made by Aardman Animation (most famous
for helping produce Nick Park's films).

Part of a recent "Monster Night" on BBC2: "Lee & Herring's Reasonably
Scary Monsters: Carol Vorderman".

ITV has started airing a second series of "Captain Star", an surreal
animated SciFi adventure (featuring the voices of Richard E. Grant and
Ade Edmondson.

"The Full Monty" may become a stage musical and a novel. Producers are
looking for someone to score the musical and write the book.

Mike Myers is working on a "Sprockets" movie. (!)

The next SNL-related film (after the one about the Roxbury guys) will be
"Superstar", based on Molly Shannon's Catholic schoolgirl Mary Katherine
Gallagher.

Local news:

FYI, the episodes of "Jonathan Creek" that ran on Channel 9 recently had
been rather seriously edited. The original episodes were 80 and 60
minutes long, but these had been reduced to 50 minutes.

Subject: Rik Back To Being A B'Stard?
From: bcdigest@SOLTEC.COM

It looks as if the character of Tory MP Alan B'Stard may be brought
back to life in another series of "The New Statesman." Rik Mayall would
once again play the notoriously right-wing B'Stard, the role that won
him an International Emmy Award.

However, Mayall is also doing quite well with his film work. He
recently won Best Actor honours at the San Remo Film Festival for his
role in "Bring Me The Head Of Mavis Davis" (co-starring "AbFab's" Jane
Horrocks) while his newest film, "Remember Me?" recently opened in the
UK. In it he plays another unlikeable character named Ian, a man who is
gloomy, unemployed, and roundly despised by friends and family.

In a recent interview, Mayall also stated that he is currently writing a
film with Ade Edmondson called "Guest House Paradiso" and that there are
plans for a "Bottom" Christmas special.

Subject: Rik Mayall's Close Call
From: bcdigest@SOLTEC.COM

[This item is a bit old, and Ric is apparently doing well.]

Rik Mayall suffered serious head injuries recently when he was thrown
off a quad bike (belonging to one of his children) and became trapped
underneath it.

The accident occurred near his home in Devon. Mayall was discovered
unconscious beneath the bike by his wife Barbara and was then rushed to
Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. He was in intensive care for several
days and the situation remained iffy, but last reports have Mayall
recuperating well. His first words were apparently ""Why are these
b******s always sticking needles into me?!"

His wife was by his side almost constantly during the ordeal, and
Channel 4 consulted the family before showing the Comic Strip special
"Four Men In A Car," which aired shortly following Rik's accident.
