About The Evergreen State Society

From a start in 1990, The Evergreen State Society served until 2004 as a center for civic initiative and a resource for nonprofits through printed publications, Internet postings and websites, conference presentations, discussions and meetings. In 2004, the Society's programs and activities were transferred to Executive Alliance (http://www.exec-alliance.org) and became elements of Executive Alliance's continuing work on behalf of a strong and effective nonprofit sector in Washington state.

During its 14 years of operation, the Society...

  • Offered opportunities for serious discussion, career development and networking several times each month and co-produced an annual nonprofit leadership conference in Seattle.
  • Created free publicly available information for people interested in nonprofits through two websites featuring contributions from members and others.
  • Organized annual observance of Nonprofit Service month in Washington state.
  • Maintained a free open forum online for announcements about and discussions of nonprofits (see NonprofitNetworking)
  • Explored issues and developments in essays by Putnam Barber and others.
  • Published its overview of Nonprofits in Washington every five years.

Highlights of the Society's work in 2003 are posted here.
