- 8/22 TRADE: In a sign-and-trade, Miami traded Tim Hardaway to Dallas
for a 2nd round draft pick in 2003 or 2004. Hardaway was first signed to a 3
year, $11.3 million contract with the 3rd year of the contract at Dallas'
option. Dallas used the trade exception they received in the Howard Eisley
trade to make this deal work. Miami also received a trade exception as a
result of this trade.

- 8/21 A good example not to believe something until it's official:
Dallas did _not_ signed Ruben Wolkowyski after he cleared waivers August 10,
despite rumors that it was going to occur. Wolkowyski is currently playing
for his country in the Tournament of the Americas. It is still possible
that he will eventually sign with Dallas.

- 8/17 The Houston-New York-Dallas trade finally became official
after Houston extorted $1 million each from New York and Dallas. Houston
was threatening to cancel the deal over concerns about Glen Rice's health.
Once a trade takes place, the players must pass a physical by their new
team within a week or the trade can be voided over medical concerns.

- Germany defeated Turkey 85-84 in an exhibition game. Dirk Nowitzki had
25 points.
- 8/10 Dallas was involved in a 3-team trade that sent Howard Eisley
and a re-signed Shandon Anderson to New York, the rights to Kyle Hill and
Glen Rice to Houston, and Muggsy Bogues to Dallas. The trade gives Dallas
a $3,260,390 trade exception (and it can _only_ be used in a trade) where
Dallas can take $3,260,390 more (plus the $100,000 fudge factor, so it really
comes out to $3,360,390) than they trade away in a trade. $3,260,390 is the
difference between Eisley's salary and Bogues' salary for 01-02 (Hill doesn't
count anything dollar-wise in a trade). Rumors still exist that Dallas will
use the exception to get Tim Hardaway. Dallas has 1 year to use the exception.
- 8/8 Dallas signed Evan Eschmeyer to a 6 year, $20 million offer
sheet. As a restricted free agent, New Jersey has 15 days to match the
offer - but they are not expected to do so as they recently signed Todd
MacCulloch.
- 8/8 Dallas re-signed Shawn Bradley to a 7 year, $30 million contract
with an opt-out after 5 years.
- 8/8 Kiki Vandeweghe signed a 5 year contract to be Denver's GM.
- The 2001-02 schedule is out.
As a stunner, Dallas will be on NBC 3 times (2/3 vs LAL, 2/23 vs Sac, 4/6 @
SA) and on TNT and TBS 9 times.
- 8/2 Dallas signed Khalid El-Amin and Darrick Martin.
- Denver is still showing interest in Kiki Vandeweghe. They are
offering him the positions of GM and director of player developement, but
have not come to a finacial agreement. Vandeweghe is currently Dallas'
director of player development.
- 8/1 San Antonio signed free agent Mark Bryant.
- 7/31 Dallas signed Danny Manning to a 2 year, $3.2 million contract.
- 7/31 Seattle signed Calvin Booth to a 6 year, $34 million contract.
Because the first year of the contract is worth $4,539,000, Dallas can not
match the offer (Booth was a restricted free agent) as the most Dallas could
offer Booth was $4,538,000.
- 7/27 Dallas signed Adrian Griffin to a 2 year, $1,203,285 contract
(minimum).

Kenny Satterfield (Cincinnati sophomore) at #54. Both are unlikely to
make the team.
- 6/27 The NBA draft is tonight. Dallas currently does not have a
first round pick (#23 went to Orlando via last year's Courtney Alexander
trade (and Orlando sent it to Houston as part of the Steve Francis
trade)). Dallas currently has 2 2nd round picks - #44 (from Houston via
last year's Eduardo Najera trade) and #54. The word "currently" is always
used when Don Nelson is in the house - rarely does he not make a draft day
trade. You can watch the draft starting at 6 pm on TNT.

repair torn cartilage. His recovery time is expect to take 4 weeks.
- 6/19 As expected, Michael Finley opted-out of his contract. He is
now a free agent, but can't be signed until July 18. He is expected to
re-signed with Dallas for the maximum.
