in an exhibition game vs France on Sunday. He is expected to re-join the
team on Wednesday. Nowitzki is playing for Germany in the European

- 8/21 CNNSI.com is reporting that Dallas has signed free agent point
guard Travis Best. Best's agent conirmed that Best is coming to Dallas
and that it is a 1 year contract. No official word on the signing yet -
and it sounds like it won't be formally signed until tomorrow as Dallas
has scheduled a press conference for tomorrow at noon "regarding a player
transaction".
- 8/20 In a major upset Mexico defeated Argentina 91-89 in the FIBA
Americas Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Eduardo Najera was the high scorer
for Mexico with 20 points before fouling out (5 fouls = fouling out in
international rules).

- 8/18 TRADE: Dallas traded Nick Van Exel, Avery johnson, Evan
Eschmeyer, (a re-signed) Popeye Jones, and Antoine Rigadeau to Golden
State for Antawn Jamison, Danny Fortson, Jiri Welsch, and Chris Mills.
- 8/15 Trade rumor: rumors are circulating far and wide that Dallas
and Golden State are working on a trade where Dallas may send Nick Van
Exel, Avery Johnson, Evan Eschmeyer, and a re-signed Popeye Jones to
Golden State for Antawn Jamison, Danny Fortson, Chris Mills, and Jiri
Welsch. This trade has not occured yet nor has it been finalized.
Reports are that if it is completed, it will not be finalized until
Monday, when the league offices open. Antawn Jamison: "It's a done deal."

- Further analysis of Josh Howard's jammed right thumb showed that it
will not need surgery and should be fully heeled by training camp.
- Reports from Europe are that Antoine Rigaudeau has reached a 2 year
agreement with Pamesa Valencia of Spain. Rigaudeau is still under
contract with the Mavs and officially can't sign with another team
(including European) until the Mavs release him. Rigaudeau is not part of
Dallas' plans for 03-04.
- 7/29 The NBA released the 03-04 schedule.

this season with 9 games on TNT, 7 on ESPN, 5 on ABC, 2 on ESPN2, and 1 on
Telemundo. The Mavs are playing Christmas day in Sacramento.
- 7/29 Dallas signed rookie free agent Marquis Daniels to a 1
year, non-guaranteed contract. Daniels will have to earn a roster spot
during training camp.
- Josh Howard missed a number of the summer league games due to a
jammed right thumb. The injury is expected to be examed further to see if
surgery is needed. Marquis Daniels missed the last 2 summer games with a
bruised knee (nothing serious).

team that will compete in the Boston summer league, but that roster has yet
to be completed.
- 7/3 Dallas signed 1st round draft pick (#29) Josh Howard to a 3
year, $2,590,920 contract with a 4th year worth $1,667,603 at the team's
option.
- 7/1 Evan Eschmeyer underwent surgery on both knees. He is expected
to miss training camp and maybe still out for the start of the season.
- 7/1 Dallas signed assistant coach Del Harris to a new 3 year
contract. His previous contract had just expired.
- 7/1 The Fort Worth Star Telegram is reporting that Antoine Rigaudeau
will like forgo the 2nd year of his guaranteed contract with Dallas and
return to Europe to play. Dallas had wanted Rigaudeau to play with their
summer league team, but he elected not to.
- 6/30 Dallas signed Don Nelson to a new 3 year contract to continue as
head coach and GM. His old coaching contract expired July 1.
- 6/27 Shawn Bradley underwent surgery on his right knee to remove
damaged cartilage. He is expected to be ready by training camp.
- 6/26 The NBA draft occurred and with the #29 pick Dallas selected
Josh Howard, a 6-6
203 small forward-shooting guard from Wake Forest. He played all 4 years of
college and averaged 19.5 points on 47.7% FG, 37.3% (53-142) 3-pointers, and
83.3% FT [shot just 64.4% FT in his first 3 years], 8.3 rebounds, 1.9
assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.5 blocks in his senior year.
- 6/26 With the #57 pick, Dallas selected Xue Yuyang from China, but
the pick was made for Denver as Dallas traded the rights to that pick to
Denver for a 2nd round pick in 2004. The pick will be from Houston, which
Denver obtained in last season's James Posey trade. Dallas made no other
draft day deals.
- 6/26 Lawyers are still going over Don Nelson's new contract and no
word on when they'll finally finalize the deal.
- 6/23 Don Nelson has reportedly agreed to a new 3-year coaching
contract. The lawyers are going over the contract and it is expected to be
signed in the next couple of days.
- 6/11 Dallas announced that they will keep this years 2nd round draft
pick (#57). As a result, Dallas' 2nd round draft pick for 2004 will go to
Miami as completion of the Tim Hardaway trade from 2001.
- Assistant coach Sidney Moncrief is reportedly considering leaving
the coaching profession and returning to Arkansas where he is a part owner
in a car dealership and can spend more time with his childern.
- The NBA announced that Dallas will play Utah in a pre-season game
October 5 in Mexico City.
