(injured, DNP), Samo Udrih, and Keith Van Horn (14 points including 5-7 FG
and 4 rebounds) and was coached by Joe Prunty. The Blue team consisted of
Doug Christie (didn't play much after the 1st quarter), Marquis Daniels
(13 points, 3 steals), DeSagana Diop, Devin Harris, Rawle Marshall, DJ
Mbenga, Dirk Nowitzki (11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists), Josh Powell, and
Jason Terry (6 points, 2 assists) and was coached by Rolando Blackman.
The Blue team led most
of the ugly game (was up 36-29 after 3), but the White team came back in
the 4th quarter and took the lead. Nowitzki was fouled attempting a 3 and
the Blue team down by 5 with about 5 seconds left. He hit the 1st 2 and
intentionally missed the 2nd and was able to grab the rebound and pass out
to Terry behind the arc, but his 3 just missed and 2 White free throws
with a fraction of a second left capped the scoring. The White team won
50-45. It wasn't a pretty game with far too many blown layups, fumbled
passes, bricked free throws (hopefully they spend a lot of time at the
line today), and other preseason type mistakes. Stackhouse had a real
pretty drive and then passed it off (and out of bounds) instead of the
easy 2. Terry had a pretty pass that was fumbled away. Harris blew an
easy one off a sweet pass by Daniels. Dampier had a couple of butterfinger
moments. It got real ugly when the training camp fodder was on the court
at the same time. For the pluses, Marshall and Harris had thunderous
dunks. Diop had a great block inside. Nowitzki hit a couple of 3s and
had some nice passes. Howard and Daniels were everywhere and both played
well (and probably the most minutes). A number of charges were taken.
[Also on the negatives was the lack of food vendors - I had my young
nieces and nephew with me and they were disappointed that there was no
cotton candy and that I wouldn't wait 20 minutes in line for popcorn
(but they did get to go to McDonalds afterwards).]
- Josh Howard's 06-07 option was picked up way back to just after the
04-05 season ended.
- Bernard Griffith has been added to the developmental coaching
staff.
- 10/4 2005-06 Training camp opened.

- 9/19 The NBA announced the teams' affiliation with NBDL teams. Per
the new collective bargaining agreement, an NBA team can send down a first
or second year player to the NBDL (where the player will likely receive
playing time). The NBA team still pays the player's salary and the player
is listed on the NBA team's inactive list (with a maximum of 2 of the
team's players sent down to the NBDL at the same time). Logic rules for a
change and Dallas is affiliated with the new Fort Worth Flyers (Golden
State, the LA Lakers, and Portland are also affiliated with the Flyers).
- 9/18 Germany defeated Russia 51-50 in the European Championship
tournament. Nowitzki had the game winning 3-pointer with 27 seconds left
(the last points scored in the game).

- Summer league

- 7/5 Orlando named Mark Bryant as an assistant coach. Bryant had
been a member of Dallas' developmental coaches for the past couple seasons.
- 7/2 Alan Henderson was arrested in New York for carry a loaded and
unlicensed in New York gun at JFK Airport. He was released without bail.
Henderson thought he was transporting the gun properly and does have a
license for it in another state and the gun was in a locked box.
- 6/29 Dallas has also added Keith Langford (Kansas), Filberto Rivera
(UTEP), and Josh Powell (NC State, has participated in a past Mavs summer
league) to their summer league roster.
- 6/28 After the draft ended, Dallas signed undrafted players Michael
Harris (Rice) and Rawle Marshall (Oakland University) to participate in
Dallas' summer league teams.
- 6/28 The NBA draft came and went without Dallas making a single move.
It is the first time Dallas did not have a draft pick or make a trade on the
draft day.
- 6/27 Avery Johnson reports that he has an oral commitment from Joe
Prunty to become one of Johnson's new assistants. Del Harris is remaining
as an assistant and Johnson wants to hire 2 new assistants. Prunty has
been an assistant coach and scout for San Antonio for the past 3 season
and has been with the Spurs for the past 9 seasons.
- Rumors are floating that Dallas will buy out the rest of Shawn
Bradley's contract and he will then retire - nothing official (though some
of the talk is coming from official sources). Rumors are also floating
that Dallas will use the one-time-cut option of the new CBA to release
Michael Finley and, thus, remove the rest of his contract from the team's
salary cap (and luxury tax expenses). I've only heard mild rumblings
about this one-time-cut option and haven't seen the real details, but the
rumors include the team still paying the cut player and the team being
unable to re-sign the cut player for the rest of the cut contract.
- 6/3 Michael Finley underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his
right ankle to remove bone chips. His recovery time is expected to take
about 4 to 6 weeks.
