the game and took their largest lead at 88-73 with 9:45 left. But (as

104-102 lead with 3:40 left, but Dallas then scored the next 7 points. 4
straight free throws by Harden pulled Houston within 108-109 with 1:05 to
go. Shawn Marion hit 1-2 FT with 50 seconds remaining. Harden airballed
a 3-point attempt with 30 seconds left, but it was Houston ball out of
bounds (and they strangely reset the shot clock [maybe the review showed
the shot clipping the rim, but it sure didn't look like it live]) and

Dallas out-scored Minnesota 32-22 in the 1st quarter, but Minnesota
out-scored Dallas 32-13 in the 2nd quarter and Dallas played catch-up most

tied with 50 seconds left and Dallas missed late in the shot clock and
Minnesota missed on 2 attempts and 2 up-close putback attempts at the
buzzer and the game went into overtime. It was a dud of an overtime for

(Bos) and 1-2 FT by O.J. Mayo with 52 seconds left had the game tied after
regulation (with Boston missing their last 2 attempts and Dallas having a

2-point Boston lead and tied over the last 2:45 of overtime. A layup by
Mayo tied the game at 105-105 with 11 seconds left and Dahntay Jones
blocked a shoot attempt by Pierce (Bos) as the buzzer. And it was an ugly
2nd overtime with lots of bricks by both teams and some sloppy turnovers
by Dallas. A layup by Rajon Rondo (Bos) gave Boston a 110-107 lead with
36 seconds left [and ended over 3 minutes with neither team scoring] and
Pierce (Bos) hit 1-2 FT after a Dallas miss to make it a 4-point game with
19 seconds to go. A 3-pointer by Vince Carter with 9 seconds left kept

the half. Sacramento was able to pull within 11 points in the 3rd
quarter, but Dallas answered with an 11-4 run to close the quarter and the 4th
was garbage time. Dallas shot 55.2% (48-87) FG and Sacarmento shot 44%
(37-84) FG. In a change from recent games, it was Sacramento that had the
turnover problem as they had 20 turnover which Dallas converted into 32

O.J. Mayo hit a long jumper to put Dallas back on top. Goran Dragic (Pho)
missed an open layup with 15 seconds left and Dallas hit 8-8 FT to hang on
to the win. Mayo had 23 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 turnovers;
Darren Collison had 16 points including 10-12 FT; and Chris Kaman had 15
points and 7 rebounds. For Phoenix, Markieff Morris had 15 points and 17
rebounds including 7 offensive and Dragic had 15 points including 5-14 FG
and 4 steals.
- 12/6 Shawn Marion left the Phoenix game during the 3rd quarter with
a right groin strain and did not return. Chris Kaman left the Phoenix
game midway through the 4th quarter with a sprained left ankle and did not
return.
- 12/6 Dallas activated Jared Cunningham and placed Rodrigue Beaubois
(injured finger) on IL.
- 12/5 Dirk Nowitzki has started light basketball practice, but is
still weeks away from returning to action.
- 12/5 The LA Clippers defeated Dallas 112-90 in LA. It was another
sloppy game by Dallas with 22 turnover (many of them unforced) which led
to 26 Clipper points. The Clippers used a 20-6 run in the 2nd quarter to
build a large lead and led 60-42 at the half. Dallas scored 9 straight
points early in the 3rd quarter to make it a 12 point lead, but the
Clippers soon again took control of the game (with the help of a series of
sloppy Dallas turnovers) and Dallas never threatened. Dallas never led in
the game. Vince Carter had 16 points and 7 rebounds and Chris Kaman had
14 points and 6 rebounds. For the Clippers, Blake Griffin had 19 points,
13 rebounds, and 5 assists; Chris Paul had 14 points, 13 assists, and 5
steals; and Jamal Crawford had 20 points.
- 12/5 Dallas activated Rodrigue Beaubois and placed Jared Cunningham
on IL.
- 12/1 Dallas defeated Detroit 92-77 in Dallas. Detroit led most of
the 1st half, but only held a 6 point lead at halftime. Dallas used a
25-6 run in the 3rd quarter (sparked by O.J. Mayo, who had 16 points
including 4-5 3-pointers in the 3rd quarter (after only having 3 points in
the 1st half)) to take over the game and Detroit never recovered as Dallas'
lead ballooned to 19 points in the 4th quarter. Mayo finished with 27
points including 6-9 3-pointers and 5 rebounds and Elton Brand had 17
points, 12 rebounds, and 4 blocks and Vince Carter had 12 points on 4-6
3-pointers (his only attempts) and 5 assists. For Detroit, Brandon Knight
had 20 points and 3 steals and Jason Maxiell had 10 points including 4-11
FG, 12 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
- 12/1 Dallas activated Darren Collison and placed Rodrigue Beaubois
(no injury) on IL.
- 11/29 Dallas signed Derek Fisher and released Troy Murphy.
- 11/28 Chicago defeated Dallas 101-78 in Chicago. The game was
close in the 1st quarter, but got out of hand in the 2nd quarter as
Chicago scored 13 straight points to go up 44-28 with 5:30 left and Dallas
was never able to find their shooting touch (only shot 28% FG after the
1st quarter) and the game was over early with the rest just torture.
Shawn Marion had 18 points including 7-11 FG and 3 other Mavs had 10
points each. For Chicago, Luol Deng had 22 points and 6 rebounds and
Joakim Noah had 13 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks.
- 11/28 Dallas activated Jared Cunningham and placed Darren Collison
(sprained right middle finger) on IL.
- 11/27 Philadelphia defeated Dallas 100-98 in Philadelphia. After
the debacle of the Lakers game, Dallas went with a new starting lineup
with Jae Crowder and Dominique Jones starting in placed of Elton Brand and
Darren Collison. The game stayed close most of the way as there were 12
ties and 8 lead changes. Dallas led 81-79 with 8:50 left in the 4th, but
had 6 straight turnovers which Phiilly took advantage of and went on a 10-0
run. A 3-pointer by Vince Carter pulled Dallas within 96-100 with 1:24 left.
Philly missed, Dallas missed, but Carter got the rebound and a layup to
make it a 2 point game. Philly again missed with 18 seconds left and
Dallas used their last timeout. Dallas (strangely) ran the clock down
some and O.J. Mayo was fouled with 3 seconds left (in the penalty).
Unfortunately, he missed the 1st free throw. He intentionally missed the
2nd free throw and Crowder got the rebound and his 3-point turn around
fling bounced off the backboard and then off the front of the rim and that
was game. Shawn Marion had 17 points and 8 rebounds and Chris Kaman had
20 points incuding 9-13 FG. For Philadelphia, Evan Turner had 22 points;
Thaddeus Young had 20 points including 6-11 FG and 7 rebounds; and Jrue
Holiday had 18 points, 7 assists, 3 steals, and 6 turnovers.
- 11/24 The LA Lakers defeated Dallas 115-89 in Dallas. Dallas
started off flat while the Lakers were hot and it soon became apparent
that it was going to be an awful night as the Lakers went up 36-23 after
1. The only question was how bad was it going to be? Really bad. The
Lakers led 65-38 at halftime and Dallas didn't finally break 50 points
until 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and the Lakers led in the 30s most
of the 3rd. You know it was a bad game when a loss margin of 26 points
did not reflect how bad the game actually was. The Lakers out-rebounded
Dallas 61-39 including 11-9 offensive (tying the Dallas opponent record with
50 defensive rebounds). For the 1st 3 quarters, the Lakers shot 51.7% FG
while Dallas shot just 37.7% FG. For the Lakers, Metta World Peace had 19
points on 7-10 FG and 5-7 3-pointers and 6 reboounds; Kobe Bryant had 19
points, 5 assists, and 6 turnovers; and Antawn Jamison had 19 points
including 7-11 FG and 15 rebounds. Vince Carter had 16 points including
4-7 3-pointers and Jae Crowder had 15 points and 4 steals.
It was Carter's 1,000th NBA game (the 104th player to reach that
milestone).
- 11/21 Dallas defeated New York 114-111 in Dallas. Dallas started
the game sloppy with 7 turnovers in the 1st quarter, but recovered and
only had 7 turnovers the rest of the game and cut the Knicks' 1st
quarter lead down to just 28-24 after 1 and the game stayed close the rest
of the half. It was an offensive explosion in the 3rd quarter as Dallas
shot 13-22 FG including 4-7 3-pointers as Dallas out-scored New York 35-26
in the 3rd and led 84-80 after 3. The offense continued to flow in the
4th and Dallas took the largest lead of the game at 102-90 with 6 minutes
left. New York whittled down Dallas' lead and a 3-point play and 2 free
throws by New York cut Dallas' lead to just 112-111 with 1:15 left. Dallas
missed, New York turned the ball over, Dallas missed, and New York called
timeout with 24 seconds left. New York surprisingly ran the clock down
and Carmelo Anthony (NY) missed with 4 seconds left and 2 free throws by
Dahntay Jones capped the scoring. It was New York's 2nd loss of the season
(8-2). Darren Collison had 19 points including 7-11 FG and 7 assists,
O.J. Mayo had 27 points including 10-17 FG, and Vince Carter had 25 points
including 5-10 3-pointers. For New York, Carmelo Anthony had 23 points, 6
rebounds, and 7 turnovers and Tyson Chandler had 18 points and 11
rebounds.
- 11/21 Troy Murphy did not play in the 2nd half of the New York game
due to an upper respiratory illness.
- 11/20 Dirk Nowitzki is continuing to rehab his knee and hopes to
return to the court in mid-December as the rehab is taking longer than he
had hoped it would.
- 11/19 Golden State defeated Dallas 105-101 in overtime in Dallas.
The game stayed close throughout as neither team held more then a 10 point
lead (by Golden State in an ugly 2nd quarter by Dallas, but the Mavs
recovered and the game did not get out of hand as it could have and Golden
State only held a 5 point lead at halftime). The teams traded leads in
the 4th quarter as there were 6 lead changes in the quarter and Stephen
Curry (GS) got hot with 14 points in the quarter. Golden State held a 2
point lead with 2 minutes left, but neither team scored over the next 80
seconds before O.J. Mayo hit a jumper to tie the game with 37 seconds left
and neither team scored on their last attempts. Curry continued to roll
with 6 more points in overtime and Golden State took an early lead.
Dallas tied the game at 99-99 with 42 seconds left, Curry fed David Lee
for a layup with 33 seconds to go, Shawn Marion missed, and Curry made the
smart play in drawing a foul with 14 seconds left and hit 2 free throws to
give Golden State a 103-99 lead. Dallas missed, and 2 free throws by
Draymond Green (GS) and a meaningless jumper by Mayo at the buzzer capped
the scoring. Golden State out-rebounded Dallas 62-43 including 19-7
offensive. Chris Kaman had 18 points and 17 rebounds and Mayo had 27
points and 5 rebounds. For Golden State, Harrison Barnes had 20 points
including 4-6 3-pointers and 12 rebounds, Lee had 17 points and 19
rebounds, and Curry had 31 points including 10-10 FT, 6 rebunds,
and 9 assists.
- 11/17 Dallas defeated Cleveland 103-95 in Cleveland. The game
stayed close throughout with neither team holding more than a 9 point
lead. Dallas scored 9 straight points to take a 98-89 lead with 3 minutes
left, but Cleveland scored the next 6 points. But Dallas scored the last
5 points of the game to seal the win. Dallas shot 51.4% (38-74) FG and
Cleveland shot 37.5% (36-96) FG - but Dallas had a very high 22 turnovers
which allowed Cleveland to stay in the game. O.J. Mayo had 19 points; Chris
Kaman had 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 blocks; and Darren Collison had 14
points and 8 assists. For Cleveland, Kyrie Irving had 26 points and
Daniel Gibson had 16 points including 4-8 3-pointers, 5 assists, and 3
steals.
- 11/16 Indiana defeated Dallas 103-83 in Indiana. Dallas actually
had a 1 point lead at halftime, but had a lousy 2nd half where they scored
just 34 points including 31% (14-45) FG while Indiana scored 55 points.
O.J. Mayo had 19 points, Darren Collison had 10 points including 3-10 FG,
and Vince Carter had 10 points - no other Mav scored in double-digits.
For Indiana, David West had 15 points and 7 rebounds and George Hill had
15 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists.
- 11/16 Dallas activated Shawn Marion and placed Jared Cunningham on
IL (no injury).
- 11/14 Dallas defeated Washington 107-101 in Dallas. Dallas built
up an 85-64 with 1:30 left in the 3rd quarter, but allowed Washington to
then go on 21-3 run to allow Washington to get back in the game. Dallas
did manage to hang on to the lead (and Washington would get no closer than
3 points), but the poor start to the 4th quarter took the luster on the
needed win. Dallas had a big advantage at the line in shooting 26-33 FT
while Washington shot 10-11 FT. Elton Brand had 11 points and 12 rebounds
including 8 offensive, Chris Kaman had 23 points including 10-12 FT and 8
rebounds, and O.J. Mayo had 25 points including 9-15 FG. For Washington,
Kevin Seraphin had 16 points on 8-10 FG, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists and
Jamal Crawford had 21 points, 7 assists, and 5 turnovers
- 11/12 Minnesota defeated Dallas 90-82 in Dallas. It was another
ugly performance by Dallas and they never found their shooting touch the
entire game. Dallas only shot 36.3% FG and were poor on the glass with no
Mav player having more than 5 rebounds. Despite their poor shooting,
Dallas had just 4 2nd chance points. What made it a worse loss was
that Minnesota was missing so many players (Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio, J.J.
Barea, Chase Budinger, and Brandon Roy) and lost Nikola Pekovic late in
the 3rd quarter with a sprained ankle. Darren Collison had 21 points
including 11-12 FT and 5 assists, O.J. Mayo had 18 points and 5 rebounds,
and Chris Kaman had 12 points including 5-15 FG - no other Mav was in
double-digits. For Minnesota, Pekovic had 20 points and 6 rebounds,
Andrei Kirilenko had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Luke Ridnour had 15
points including 3-9 FG, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals.
- 11/10 Charlotte defeated Dallas 101-97 in overtime in Charlotte.
It was an ugly start to the game as Charlotte jumped out to a 17-4 lead,
but Dallas finally woke up and took a 55-44 lead at the half. Dallas held
a lead most of the 2nd half, but had about as ugly end to the 4th quarter
as you could have. Charlotte scored 9 straight points to take an 85-84
lead with 3:15 left, but Dallas went up 91-87 with 27 seconds to go.
Brendan Haywood (Cha) got a layup with 23 seconds left and was fouled. He
missed the free throw, but Dallas did not corral the rebound. Ramon
Sessions (Cha) got the tying layup with 3 seconds left and Vince Carter
missed at the quarter's end. In overtime, Dallas' struggles continued as
the Mavs shot just 1-7 FG. Charlotte scored 6 straight points to take a
97-93 lead with 1;30 left and Dallas could not recover. Dallas shot just
5-21 FG and had 7 turnovers combined in the 4th quarter and overtime.
Charlotte out-scored Dallas 10-6 in overtime - O.J. Mayo scored all 6 of
Dallas' points. For the game, Mayo had 22 points and Vince Carter had 19
points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. For Charlotte, Rookie Michael
Kidd-Gilchrist had 25 points including 9-10 FT and 12 rebounds including
5 offenisve and Kemba Walker had 26 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and 8
steals. It was Charlotte's first win ever against Dallas (1-16).
- 11/9 New York defeated Dallas 104-94 in New York. It was a close
game most of the game with neither team holding a double-digit lead until
New York scored 8 straight points to take a 98-86 lead with 5:30 left in the
4th quarter and Dallas was unable to put a rally together. O.J. Mayo had
23 points including 5-10 3-pointers, 7 rebounds, and 8 turnovers and Vince
Carter had 15 points and 6 rebounds. Darren Collison had a poor outing
with just 4 points including 1-8 FG, but did have 8 assists (and 4
turnovers). For New York, Carmelo Anthony had 31 point sincuding 9-14 FT
and 7 rebounds and J.R. Smith had 22 points and 4 steals.
- 11/7 Dallas defeated Toronto 109-104 in Dallas. Dallas held a lead
most of the game, but never large enough to feel comfortable. Toronto
tried to make a push at the end of the game (cutting a 10 point lead down
to 5 with a minute left), but Dallas had enough of a lead to hang on to
the win. Dallas got the win despite missing 4 rotation players (Nowitzki,
Marion, Brand, Beaubois), but Toronto was also missing top player Kyle
Lowry. Chris Kaman had 22 points and 8 rebounds; O.J. Mayo had 22 points,
5 rebounds, and 6 assists; and Vince Carter had 17 points and 5 rebounds.
For Toronto, Andrea Bargnani had 25 points and 9 rebounds; DeMar DeRozan
had 24 points including 8-10 FT, 6 reboounds, and 7 assists; and Amir
Johnson had 18 points including 6-7 FG and 11 rebounds including 6 offensive.
- 11/7 Rodrigue Beaubois (sprained left ankle) and Elton Brand (birth
of child) did not play in the Toronto game.
- 11/7 Dallas activated Rodrigue Beaubois and placed Shawn Marion
(sprained left MCL) on IL.
- 11/7 TV broadcaster Mark Followill returned to action after missing
the previous 2 games following a bicycle accident.
- 11/6 Shawn Marion is expected to be out at least a week with a
sprained left knee.
- 11/5 Dallas defeated Portland 114-91 in Dallas. The game was close
through 3 quarters with Dallas mostly holding small leads. But Dallas
blew the game open in the 4th quarter with a 17-4 run to take a 102-87
lead with 5 minutes left and then scored the last 12 points of the game to
make the final margin even larger. Dallas out-scored Portland 31-12 in
the 4th quarter as Dallas shot a white hot 14-18 FG. And they were hot
the whole game in shooting 61.5% (48-78) FG including 10-20 3-pointers
while Portland shot just 38.7% (36-93) FG. With Dallas' strong shooting,
they did tie a team record low with just 2 offfensive rebounds. On his
birthday, O.J. Mayo had 32 points including 12-18 FG and 6-8 3-pointers.
Darren Collison had 14 points and 13 assists and Chris Kaman had 16 points
on 8-10 FG and 6 rebounds. For Portland, LaMarcus Alridge had 20 points
and 7 rebounds and Wesley Matthews had 20 points and 5 turnovers. After a
strong first 3 games where he averaged 21.3 points and 9 assists, Portland
rookie Damian Lillard had just 13 points including 2-13 FG and 1-8
3-pointers and 5 assists.
- 11/5 Shawn Marion suffered a strained left knee during the 3rd
quarter and did not return.
- 11/5 TV broadcaster Mark Followill remained out for the Portland
game due to his injuries from a bicycle accident. He hopes to return on
Wednesday.
- 11/5 Former Mav TV broadcaster Jim Durham died. He was 65 years old.
- 11/3 Dallas defeated Charlotte 126-99 in Dallas. Darren Collison
nailed a running 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer to give Dallas a 61-53
lead and cap a 9-0 run. Dallas built on their lead in the 2nd quarter and
led in the low teens most of the quarter and it was up to a 16 point lead
at the end of 3 as Dallas shot 15-21 FG in the quarter. And it was a
blowout early in the 4th as Dallas opened the quarter with a 12-3 run and
led in the 20s the rest of the game. Dallas shot 61.3% (49-80) FG
including 16-25 3-pointers while Charlotte shot 42.9% (39-91) FG including
3-17 3-pointers. O.J. Mayo had 30 points including 10-17 FG and 7-10
3-pointers and 6 rebounds, Darren Collison had 18 points and 10 assists,
and Vince Carter had 18 points including 4-8 3-pointers as Dallas had 6
players in double-digits. For Charlotte, Ramon Sessions had 22 points and
5 assists and Byron Mullens had 16 points and 10 rebounds.
- 11/3 Rick Carlisle had his 200th win as Dallas' coach.
- 11/3 Dallas activated Chris Kaman and placed Rodrigue Beaubois (sprained
ankle) on IL.
- 11/3 Mavs TV broadcaster Mark Followill missed the Charlotte game due to
being injured in a bike accident earlier on Saturday. Radio broadcaster
Chuck Cooperstein filled in for Followill and Spanish radio broadcaster
Victor Villalba filled in for Cooperstein.
- 11/2 Dallas signed Troy Murphy and released Eddy Curry.
- 10/31 Utah defeated Dallas 113-94 in Utah. Dallas' strong shooting
in the 2nd quarter helped Dallas to a 63-55 lead, but the 3rd quarter was
a disaster as Dallas shot just 5-22 FG and were unable to stop the Jazz as
Utah out-scored Dallas 37-13 in the 3rd. And the rebounding was terrible
as Utah out-rebounded Dallas 61-40 including 20-8 offensive in the game.
Darren Collison had 17 points and 7 assists and Brandan Wright had 15
points. For Utah, Marvin Williams had 21 points, Paul Millsap had 13
points and 15 rebounds including 8 offensive, Al Jefferson had 12 points
and 14 rebounds, and Maurice Williams had 21 points and 6 assists.
- 10/30 Dallas defeated the LA Lakers 99-91 in LA. It was a
surprising win with the Lakers at full strength and Dallas missing
starters Dirk Nowitzki and Chris Kaman. The game stayed close in the 1st
half with Dallas holding a 2-point lead at halftime. Dallas out-played
the Lakers in the 3rd quarter and then built up a 16 point lead with 1:40
left in the 4th quarter (the Lakers scored the last 9 points of the game
(including a meaningless 3-point with 2 seconds left) to make the final
margin more respectible). The Lakers hurt themselves with their pathetic
free throw shooting as they shot just 12-31 FT. It was a balanced attack
with 6 players in double-digits scoring (and Elton Brand chipped in 8
points and 11 rebounds). Darren Collison had 17 points and 3 steals;
Brandan Wright had 14 points including 5-5 FG, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocks;
and Shawn Marion had 11 points and 9 rebounds. It wasn't a balanced
attacke for the Lakers as only 3 were in double-digits. Paul Gasol had 23
points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 blocks; Kobe Bryant had 22 points on
11-14 FG, and Dwight Howard had 19 points including 3-14 FT and 10
rebounds before fouling out with 2 minutes left in the game.
- 10/30 Start of the 2012-13 season.
- 10/30 Dallas placed Dirk Nowitzki (right knee surgery) and Chris
Kaman (strained right calf) on IL.
- 10/30 Dallas elected not to exercise their 13-14 option for
Dominique Jones.
- 10/29 Dallas released Delonte West.
- 10/28 Dallas released Melvin Ely and Chris Douglas-Roberts. Dallas
still needs to make one more roster cut (and hasn't decided yet if Delonte
West will remain with the team).
- 10/27 Dallas signed Melvin Ely and Chris Douglas-Roberts to
non-guaranteed contracts. Dallas' roster currently has 18 players on it,
so 3 have to be released by Monday (when 15-player-maximum opening day
rosters have to be set).
- 10/26 In a preseason game, Dallas defeated Charlotte 99-82 in
Dallas. Dallas built up an early lead thanks to Charlotte's poor shooting
(and Charlotte looks to be a really bad team). Charlotte did use a 15-4
run to pull within 3 points late in the 4th quarter, but Dallas scored the
last 14 points of the game. Shawn Marion had 24 points including 10-15
FG, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks and O.J. Mayo had 13 points including 4-15
FG, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists as 6 Mavs were in double-digits. For
Charlotte, Gerald Henderson had 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals and
Byron Mullens had 16 points on 8-25 FG and 19 rebounds including 8
offensive.
- 10/26 Dirk Nowitzki (right knee surgery), Chris Kaman (strained
right calf), Brandan Wright (sprained left ankle), and Delonte West
(suspended) did not play in the Charlotte game.
- 10/25 Dallas claimed Eddy Curry off waivers.
- 10/25 Dallas suspended Delonte West for conduct detrimental to the
game.
- 10/24 In a preseason game, Oklahoma City defeated Dallas 88-76 in
Wichita, Kansas. With 4 key Mavs players not even in Wichita and Oklahoma
City playing their stars, it was surprising that this game was not a blowout.
Poor shooting by Dallas helped Olahoma City build an early lead, but
Dallas played hard and the Thunder were never able to build a comfortable
lead (their largest was just 14 points). The 4th quarter was ugly for
both teams with both shooting less than 40% FG and Dallas having 4
turnovers and OKC having 5 in the quarter. Jae Crowder was the high man
with 21 points and 9 rebounds and Brandan Wright (despite only playing 18
minutes) had 11 points and 5 rebounds - no other Mav was in double-digits.
For Oklahoma City, Kevin Durant had 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists,
Serge Ibaka had 15 points and 7 rebounds, and James Harden had 16 points
and 5 assists.
- 10/24 Brandan Wright suffered a sprained left ankle in the 3rd
quarter of the Oklahoma City game and did not return.
- 10/24 Dirk Nowitzki (right knee surgery), Chris Kaman (strained
right calf), Shawn Marion (rest), and Vince Carter (rest) did not play
in the Oklahoma City game.
- 10/22 In a preseason game, Dallas defeated New Orleans 87-74 in
Dallas. It was another ugly preseason game, but this time the struggles
were more on New Orleans' side as they fell behind early and Dallas led
25-10 after 1 as New Orleans shot just 4-22 FG and had 6 turnovers. The
game stayed ugly with both teams struggling with their shots, but Dallas
went to the free throw line more. New Orleans did pull within
single-digits early in the 4th quarter before Dallas was able to pull
away. Dallas led the entire game. There were some bizarre stats in the
game (both teams shot in the 30%s; Dallas shot 26-30 FT and New Orleans
shot 11-14 FT; New Orleans out-rebounded Dallas 62-40 including 20-4
offensive; Dallas had 10 turnovers and New Orleans had 21 turnovers).
O.J. Mayo was the high man with 13 points, but shot just 4-16 FG. Jae
Crowder had 12 points, Roddy Beaubois had 12 points, and Vince Carter had
11 points and 7 rebounds. For New Orleans, Robin Lopez had 14 points and
11 rebounds including 7 offensive, Ryan Anderson had 14 points and 9
rebounds, and Anthony Davis had 6 points including 2-12 FG but also had 17
rebounds including 6 offensive. But the big (bad) news for the game was
that New Orleans rookie Austin Rivers left the game late in the 2nd
quarter and had to be helped to the lockerroom - postgame report had it as
a sprained right ankle.
- 10/22 Dirk Nowitzki (right knee surgery) and Chris Kaman (strained
right calf) did not play in the New Orleans game.
- 10/20 In a preseason game, Atlanta defeated Dallas 110-94 in
Atlanta. It was an ugly preseason game with poor shooting, poor defense,
and lots of free throws. Atlanta built up a double-digit lead in the 1st
quarter and Dallas played from behind the entire game (with Atlanta
building their lead into the 20s in the 2nd half). Jae Crowder started
and had 15 points and Vince Carter had 13 points. For Atlanta, Mike Scott
had 17 points including 6-6 FG and Ivan Johnson had 17 points and 7
rebounds.
- 10/20 Dirk Nowitzki (right knee surgery) and Chris Kaman (strained
right calf) did not play in the Atlanta game.
- 10/19 Dirk Nowitzki underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and
is expected to be out 6 weeks.
- 10/18 Dallas released Josh Akognon.
- 10/17 In a preseason game, Phoenix defeated Dallas 100-94 in
Dallas. Despite it being a relatively close game early in the 4th
quarter, both teams went for playing their younger players instead of
going for the win as Dallas played their 3 rookies and rookie training
camp invitee for the last 6 minutes of the game. Chris Kaman had 16
points, Vince Carter had 15 points and 7 rebounds, and O.J. Mayo had 14
points. Rookie Jae Crowder's shot was off in this game, but he stayed
active in other areas and had 6 rebounds, 5 steals, and 3 blocks. For
Phoenix, Jared Dudley had 16 points and Goran Dragic had 12 points and 6
assists.
- 10/17 Dirk Nowitzki (sore right knee) and Rodrigue Beaubois
(sprained left ankle) did not play in the Phoenix game.
- 10/15 After the Houston game, Dallas suspended Delonte West for
"conduct detrimental to the team" - reports are that West and coach
Carlisle exchanged words. West talked with Carlisle and GM Donn Nelson
on Tuesday and it ended up being just a one day suspension.
- 10/15 In a preseason game, Dallas defeated Houston 123-104 in
Dallas - it was the 2nd night of a back-to-back (rediculous to have such a
thing in preseason) for Houston and Jeremy Lin (rest) did not play for
Houston. It wasn't a pretty 1st half for the Mavs (with lots of non-team
basketball plays in the 1st quarter), but Dallas played much better in the
3rd quarter and built up a double-digit lead. With the lead, the 3 rookies
played most of the 4th quarter. Jae Crowder played really well with 18 of
his 20 points coming in the 4th (including a surprising 4-5 3-pointers in
the 4th). O.J. Mayo had 20 points, Shawn Marion had 15 points and 6
rebounds, and Vince Carter had 15 points. For Houston, Kevin Martin had
23 points and Patrick Patterson had 13 points and 7 rebounds.
- 10/15 Dirk Nowitzki (sore right knee) and Rodrigue Beaubois
(sprained left ankle) did not play in the Houston game.
- 10/13 Dallas held their annual Blue-White scrimmage. The Blue team
defeated the White team 33-27 in a 12 minute game. The Blue team
consisted of Josh Akognon, Elton Brand, Vince Carter, Jae Crowder, Dahntay
Jones. Dominique Jones, Delonte West, and Brandan Wright (11 points) and
was coached by Darrell Armstrong and assistant Mike Shedd. Darren
Collison, Jared Cunningham, Bernard James, Chris Kaman, Shawn Marion, and
Dirk Nowitzki and was coached by Tony Brown and assistant Mike Weinar.
Roddy Beaubois (sprained left ankle) and O.J. Mayo (cut on right hand) did not
participate in the scrimmage.
- 10/12 Dirk Nowitzki did participate in Friday's practice.
- 10/10 Dirk Nowitzki had his right knee drained. The team hopes
that the knee will be fine after resting it for a while, but there is a
chance that he will undergo arthroscopic surgery on the knee.
- 10/9 In a preseason game, Barcelona defeated Dallas 99-85 in
Barcelona, Spain. Barcelona built up a large lead after 3 at 74-56 by
out-scoring Dallas 32-16 in the 3rd quarter. The younger players were
able to get Dallas back in the game in the 4th quarter by pressing hard
(Barcelona had 7 turnovers in the 4th), but were unable to get closer than
6 points and Barcelona closed the game with a 10-2 run. Chris Kaman had
15 points and 10 rebounds, Darren Collison had 14 points and 4 assists,
and Elton Brand had 10 points - no other Mav was in double-digits. For
Barcelona, Pete Mickeal had 19 points and 6 rebounds and Juan Carlos
Navarro had 19 points including 5-9 3-pointers.
- 10/9 Dirk Nowitzki (swollen right knee) and Rodrigue Beaubois
(sprained left ankle) did not play in the Barcelona game.
- 10/8 Roddy Beaubois is out of the walking boot, but will sit out
Tuesday's game.
- 10/7 Roddy Beaubois is wearing a walking boot for his sprained left
ankle. No time table has been given for how long he will be out.
- 10/6 In a preseason game, Dallas defeated Alba Berlin 89-84 in
Berlin - it was the first
time Dallas played a game overseas (but they have played games in Mexico).
The Mavs did play the game fairly seriously with key players on the floor
down the stretch. But it was definitely a preseason game as it was sloppy
and Dallas was credited with 10 turnovers (I actually think it was more
with a few not being counted) in the 1st quarter and 27 turnovers for the
game. But their shooting was good as Dallas shot 53% FG while Berlin shot
just 39.8% FG. Chris Kaman had 14 points and 6 rebounds, Darren Collison
had 14 points and 9 assists, and Vince Carter had 14 points including 4-8
3-pointers. For Berlin, Deon Thompson had 20 points and 5 rebounds and
Nihad Djedovic had 15 points and 5 rebounds.

quarter of the Berlin game and did not return.

- 8/23 Former Mavs player Eduardo Najera announced his retirement
from the NBA. Najera was named as head coach for the Texas Legends,
Dallas' NBADL team.
- 8/21 Dallas named Jim O'Brien as an assistant coach (replacing Terry
Stotts, who left to become head coach for Portland).
- 8/15 The NBA announced the pre-season schedule.

strained back (not a serious injury). Dallas finished the summer league
with a record of 4-1.
- 7/21 Dallas signed 1st round draft pick (#24) Jared Cunningham to a

11 points. [1st round draft pick Jared Cunningham is not playing due to
"minor injuries" - pattella tendinis and a strained hamstring.]
- 7/14 Charlotte made the winning bid for Dallas amnestied player
Brendan Haywood and, thus, he joins the Bobcats. The bid was reported as
$6 million ($2 million per year) for the remaining 3 years of Haywood's
contract. Dallas still pays Haywood the salary they owed Haywood, minus
the $2 million Charlotte pays him - but Haywood no longer counts against
Dallas' salary cap or luxury tax.
- 7/13 Dallas made the winning bid for amnestied player Elton Brand at for
a reported 1 year, $2.1 million and, thus he joins the Mavericks.
[Philadelphia still has to pay Brand $16 million ($18.1 million minus
Dallas' salary) for the final year of his contract, but that amount does
not count against Philadelphia's salary cap or luxury tax. For a player
that is amnestied, teams can make a blind bid for that player and the
highest bid gets the player.]

$8 million contract.
- 7/12 TRADE: In a sign-and-trade, Dallas re-signed Ian Mahinmi to

Collison and Dahntey Jones.

him. The team will have to continue to pay the remainder of his contract
(minus any amount if another team picks him up), but it will not count
against the salary cap or the luxury tax.
