Dirk Nowitzki and he did not play. Dallas started the game well and used a
26-5 run to take a 34-13 lead and led 34-15 after 1. Unfortunately the
game is longer than 1 quarter and that was the only quarter Dallas played
well. Toronto opened the 2nd quarter with a 17-4 run to pull within 32-38
with 7 minutes remaining. Dallas did manage to hang on to the lead and
led 57-46 at the half. Dallas continued to cling to a single-digit lead

as Toronto went on a 12-4 run, capped by a 3-pointer play by DeMar
DeRozan, to take an 85-82 lead with 3:40 remaining. Brandan Wright hit a
jumper on Dallas' next possession, but that would Dallas' last bucket
(though they would add a free throw) as the Mavs would miss their next 3
shots and turned the ball over 3 more times (upping their total in the
quarter 9) and Toronto closed the game with an 8-1 run. Toronto
out-scored Dallas 25-12 in the 4th quarter. Monta Ellis had 21 points, 6

points in the quarter. 6 straight Dallas points gave the Mavs an 85-68
lead with 9:30 remaining, but Cleveland then went on a 16-2 monster run to

quick dunk with 11 seconds left. Monta Ellis was intentionally fouled,
but left the door open in missing both free throws. But Dallas played
good inbounds defense and the Cavs lost the ball on a 5-seconds inbounds
violation (and the ref even gave them an extra second). This time Ellis
hit both free throws for the game's final points. Shawn Marion had 18

within 46-54 with 3:40 left in the 2nd quarter, but Portland then went on
a 14-2 run to take a 20 point lead and led 71-52 at the half. And then
things go ugly. Portland steam-rolled over the Mavs with a 25-10 run over
the first 8 minutes of the 3rd quarter to go up 96-62 with 4:15 left in
the 3rd quarter. The rest of the game was a blowout and Portland led

quarter to cut Houston's lead down to single digits and the other Mavs
joined in as Dallas opened the quarter with a 14-3 run to pull within
101-104 with 6:50 to go. But Houston then connected on consecutive
3-pointers. The Mavs continued to chip away at Houston's lead and a
jumper by Nowitzki followed by a break-away dunk by Shawn Marion made it
118-119 with 1:20 remaining. After Houston missed inside, a 3-pointer by
Marion with 48 seconds left gave Dallas their first lead since a minute
into the game. The teams traded missed 3-pointers and James Harden (Hou)
was fouled with 9 seconds left, but he only hit 1-2 FT. Jose Calderon was
intentionally fouled and hit both free throws with 6 seconds to go to make
it a 3 point game. Harden missed a 3-point attempt with 4 seconds left -
Houston did get the rebound, but was unable to get off a final attempt
before time expired as Dallas swarmed the ball. Dallas out-scored Houston
36-19 in the 4th quarter. It was a hot shooting game for both teams
(though Houston only shot 5-19 FG in the 4th quarter) as Dallas shot 58%
FG and Houston shot 55% FG. It was the 2nd night of a back-to-back for
Houston. Nowitzki had 35 points (14 of which came in the 4th) including
13-20 FG and 7 rebounds, Monta Ellis had 37 points on 13-18 FG and 9-12 FT
and 8 assists, Marion had 13 points, and Calderon had 13 points. For
Houston, Chandler Parsons had 21 points including 7-10 FG and 4-5
3-pointers, 5 rebounds, 11 assists, and 4 steals; Dwight Howard had 33
points on 12-16 FG and 9-13 FT and 11 rebounds; and Harden had 23 points
including 9-11 FT and 8 assists. Nowitzki passed Reggie Miller (25,279)
for 15th place on the NBA's all-time scoring list.
- 11/18 Dallas defeated Philadelphia 97-94 in Dallas. Philadelphia
jumped out to an early 8-0 lead and Dallas played catch-up the rest of the
half (Philadelphia was unable to build a lead larger than 10 points, but
Dallas couldn't take a lead). A dunk by Shawn Marion late in the 3rd
quarter gave Dallas their first lead at 70-69 with 1:45 left. A 3-point
play by Monta Ellis with 7:40 remaining gave Dallas an 84-77 lead, but the
game still stayed close. Philadelphia pulled within 3 points with 3:45 to
go, but Dallas answered with a 3-pointer, technical free throw, and
break-away dunk to take their largest lead at 96-87 with 2:15 left and
Philadelphia was unable to pull closer than the final score. Marion had 20
points and 7 rebounds, Dirk Nowitzki had 20 points and 10 rebounds, and
Monta Ellis had 24 points including 9-13 FT and 10 assists. For
Philadelphia, Evan Turner had 26 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists and Tony
Wroten had 19 points and 5 steals.
- 11/18 Dallas activated Shane Larkin.
- 11/16 Dallas defeated Orlando 108-100 in Orlando. Dallas closed
the 1st quarter with an 11-2 run to take a 31-24 lead after 1. 5 straight
Dallas points gave the Mavs their first double-digit lead at 40-28 with 8
minutes left in the 2nd quarter and Dallas took their largest lead at 15
points late in the 2nd. But Orlando continued to hang around in the 3rd
quarter and Dallas only led 87-80 after 3. Orlando continued to hang
around in the 4th quarter and pulled within 91-96 with 3:35 left, but a
free throw by DeJuan Blair followed by a 3-pointer by Dirk Nowitzki
basically put the game away as Orlando would not get closer than 7 points
the rest of the way. Nowitzki had 18 points including 4-6 3-pointers;
Monta Ellis had 19 points, 8 assists, and 3 steals; and Blair had 18
points including 7-9 FG and 5 rebounds. For Orlando, Arron Afflalo had 25
points including 13-14 FT and Nikola Vucevic had 16 points and 8 rebounds.
- 11/16 The NBA suspended Mario Chalmers (Mia) for 1 game for throwing an
elbow at Dirk Nowitzki's (Dal) chin during Friday's Dal-Mia game.
- 11/15 Miami defeated Dallas 110-104 in Miami. It was a close game
through out with neither team holding more than a 13 point lead. Miami
did use a 10-0 run early in the 2nd quarter to take a 43-35 left and would
hold that lead until late in the 3rd quarter when Dallas breifly took a
72-70 lead with 3:20 left. Miami then went on a 14-3 run and held an 8
point lead after 3. 4 straight Dirk Nowitzki points pulled Dallas within
97-98 with 4:15 remaining and another Dirk bucket again made it a 1 point
deficit with 2:30 left, but Miami then scored the next 8 points as Dallas
had 2 turnovers and 2 misses and that was game. It was a turnover fest
as Dallas had 24. Dirk Nowitzki had 28 points, 6 rebounds, and 5
turnovers; Monta Ellis had 20 points and 5 turnovers; and Vince Carter
had 21 points. Jose Calderon surpased 4,000 career assists. For Miami,
LeBron James had 39 points on 14-18 FG and 10-11 FT, 6 rebounds, and 6
turnovers and Dwyane Wade had 17 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, and 8 steals.
- 11/12 Dallas defeated Washington 105-95 in Dallas. Dallas scored
the last 8 points of the 2nd quarter to take a 61-49 lead at the half.
Dallas built their lead up to 15 in the 3rd quarter, but Washington went
on an 18-7 run to pull within 74-78 with 3:30 left in the quarter. Dallas
did continue to lead and used an 8-1 run to take a 97-85 lead with 6
minutes to go. Washington did not have another run in them and pulled no
closer than 8 points. Dirk Nowitzki had 19 points and 8 rebounds, Monta
Ellis had 19 points and 7 assists, and Samuel Dalembert had 15 points
including 5-7 FG and 5 rebounds. For Washington, Trevor Ariza had 27
points including 10-17 FG and 5-11 3-pointers, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals
and John Wall had 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 10 assists. Nowitzki passed
Jerry West (25,192) for 16th place on the NBA all-time scoring list.
- 11/12 Wayne Ellington (right thigh contusion) did not play in the
Washington game.
- 11/9 Dallas defeated Milwaukee 91-83 in Milwaukee. Dallas scored
the last 8 points of the 1st quarter to take a 34-19 lead and controlled
the 1st half. Dallas led 64-47 with 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and
Milwaukee then went on a 16-2 run to pull within 63-66 with 1:40 to go and
left Dallas clinging to small leads. Milwaukee closed to within 81-83
with 2:46 left, but Dallas closed the game with an 8-2 run (with
Milwaukee's only points coming from 2-4 FT) to preserve the win.
Monta Ellis had 18 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals; Shawn Marion had 14
points and 10 rebounds; and Dirk Nowitzki had 16 points including 5-15 FG
and 6 rebounds. For Milwaukee, Caron Butler had 19 points and 13 rebounds
and O.J. Mayo had 28 points including 4-7 3-pointers, 6 rebounds, and 6
turnovers.
- 11/8 Minnesota defeated Dallas 116-108 in Minnesota. The game
stayed close in the 1st half with both teams holding small leads (once
Minnesota led by 10 points, but Dallas quickly brought that down to 2).
7 straight points (6 by Kevin Martin) gave Minnesota a 77-66 lead with 5
minutes to go in the 3rd quarter, but Dallas then scored the next 8 points.
The game remained close in the 4th quarter (with Minnesota still holding
small leads) until a 3-pointer and mid-range jumper by Kevin Love gave
Minnesota a 110-102 lead with 1:10 remaining and Dallas didn't have a
rally left. Minnesota shot 26-30 FT and Dallas shot 10-15 FT. Monta
Ellis had 23 points including 9-24 FG and Jose Calderon had 21 points
including 7-11 FG and 6-8 3-pointers and 7 assists. For Minnesota, Corey
Brewer had 17 points; Love had 32 points including 12-21 FG, 15 rebounds
including 6 offensive, and 3 blocks; and Martin had 32 points including
9-10 FT and 5 rebounds.
- 11/8 The NBA suspended Vince Carter for 1 game for throwing an
elbow at Steven Adams (OKC) during Wednesday's Dal-OKC game.
- 11/6 Oklahoma City defeated Dallas 107-93 in Oklahoma City. The
game stayed close in the 1st half with neither team holding more than an 8
point lead. Oklahoma City scored the first 6 points of the 3rd quarter to
take a 12 point lead. 4 straight Thunder points gave them an 80-65 lead
with 2:30 left in the 3rd. Dallas was unable to put together a rally in
the 4th quarter and would get no closer than 10 points. Oklahoma City
shot 54.4% (43-79) FG and Dallas shot 42.4% (36-85) FG. Monta Ellis had
20 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists; Shawn Marion had 17 points; Dirk
Nowitzki had 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals; and Jae Crowder had 17
points including 6-8 FG. For Oklahoma City, Kevin Durant had 23 points,
10 assists, and 5 turnovers; Serge Ibaka had 17 points on 8-10 FG, 13
rebounds, and 3 blocks; and Russell Westbrook had 22 points and 5 turnovers.
- 11/5 Dallas defeated the LA Lakers 123-104 in Dallas. A 3-pointer
by Vince Carter gave Dallas a 29-18 lead with 3 minutes left in the 1st
quarter and never looked back. A 3-pointer by Jose Calderon gave Dallas
their largest lead at 90-60 with 4:30 left in the 3rd quarter. The Lakers
did then make a rally, but Dallas' lead was too large and they never got
closer than 15 points. Dallas led the entire game. Dallas had 7 players
in double-digit scoring. Monta Ellis had 30 points including 11-14 FG and
9 assists, Dirk Nowitzki had 11 points and 8 rebounds, and Jae Crowder had
18 points on 7-9 FG and 4-6 3-pointers. For the LA Lakers, Nick Young had
21 points and 3 steals and Jordan Farmar had 11 points and 7 assist.
- 11/2 Dallas defeated Houston 111-99 in Dallas. It was the opposite
of the Houston game as Dallas took control early in scoring 13 straight
points to take a 10 point lead midway through the 1st quarter and led
28-13 with 2 minutes left. Dallas pushed their lead into the low 20s
midway through the 2nd quarter, but Memphis scored 15 consecutive points
to pull within 43-48 with a minute left in the quarter. The 3rd quarter
saw Dallas hanging on to a single digit lead as neither team had a
rally. A 3-point play by Vince Carter at the end of the 3rd quarter gave
Dallas a 73-63 lead. Dallas' lead hovered around 10 points and Memphis
got in the penalty early. Dallas scored 7 straight points to take a 93-77
lead with 6 minutes to go and Memphis was unable to pull closer than 8
points the rest of the way. Dallas shot 40-46 FT (including 21-25 FT in
the 4th quarter) and Memphis shot 22-26 FT. It was a balanced attack for
Dallas with 6 players in double-digit scoring. Dirk Nowitzki had 24
points and 6 rebounds, Shawn Marion had 21 points on 6-17 FG and 9-10 FT
and 14 rebounds including 6 offensive, and Monta Ellis had 18 points on
5-14 FG and 8-10 FT and 3 steals. For Memphis, Mike Conley had 24 points
including 9-10 FT and 8 assists, Marc Gasol had 23 points and 5 rebounds,
and Zach Randolph had 21 points and 14 rebounds including 5 offensive.
- 11/1 Houston defeated Dallas 113-105 in Houston. Houston started
the game strong and Dallas' defense was lacking and the Rockets led 38-22
after 1 as Houston shot better than 50% FG while Dallas was under 40% FG -
and James Harden (Hou) had 12 points in the quarter. Houston built their
lead up to 22 points midway through the 2nd quarter. But Dallas had a
rally at the end of the quarter and Houston only led by 11 points at the
half. Dallas continued to work away at Houston's lead and pulled within
70-76 with 3 minutes left in the 3rd (playing some hack-a-Howard), but
Houston then went on a 15-4 run (capped by 2 3-pointers to open the 4th
quarter) to take a 91-74 lead with 11 minutes to go. Dallas again made a
push and pulled within 8 points, but Houston answered with 8 straight
points (while Dirk Nowitzki picked up his 6th foul during the run) to go
up 99-83 with 5:30 left. The Mavs' deep bench made a surprising push
(behind 6 3-pointers) to pull within 105-110 - but there were only 24
seconds left and Houston hit 3-4 FT to cap the scoring. For the game,
Houston shot 46.6% (34-73) FG and 34-51 FT and Dallas shot 38% (38-100) FG
and 20-25 FT. Nowitzki had 22 points including 10-11 FT, Monta Ellis had
20 points, and Jae Crowder had 15 points on 5-7 3-pointers (all in the
4th). Nice mention to Gal Mekel who played really well (easily his best
game including preseason) with a good, aggressive shooting touch and nice
ball movement and had 11 points on 5-7 FG and 6 assists (and just 1
turnover) - really liked the pick he set down low that gave Dirk a little
extra room for a bucket. For Houston, Harden had 34 points including
11-17 FG and 4-8 3-pointers and Dwight Howard had a double-double with 13
points (on just 4-10 FG and 5-12 FT) and 16 rebounds including 5
offensive.
- 10/30 Dallas defeated Atlanta 118-109 in Dallas. The game stayed
fairly close most of the way with Dallas mostly holding small leads as
both teams shot well. A 17-2 run in the 3rd quarter gave the Mavs an
84-72 lead late in the quarter, but Atlanta was able to cut Dallas' lead
down to 7 points after 3. Atlanta pulled within 4 points 3 minutes into
the 4th quarter, but Dallas then went on a 10-1 run. A flurry of
3-pointers late in the game (2 by Dirk Nowitzki and 1 by Monta Ellis) were
the nails in the coffin. For the game Dallas shot 57.1% (44-77) FG and
Atlanta shot 48.7% (37-76) FG. Nowitzki had 24 points including 4-6
3-pointers and 5 assists; Ellis had 32 points including 11-17 FG, 8
assists, and 7 turnovers; and Vince Carter had 21 points. For Atlanta,
Paul Millsap had 20 points including 9-15 FG and 5 rebounds and Jeff
Teague had 24 points including 9-12 FT, 9 assists, 4 steals, and 6
turnovers. Nowitzki surpassed 40,000 minutes played during the game,
becoming the 27th player to do so. Jose Calderon had his 500th career steal.
- 10/30 Dallas placed Devin Harris (left foot surgery), Shane Larkin
(fractured right ankle), and Brandan Wright (fractured left shoulder) on IL.
- 10/30 Dallas' start of the 2013-14 regular season.
- 10/28 Gersson Rosas resigned as GM for Dallas. He had held the
position for only 3 months.
- 10/26 Dallas released Mickey McConnell.
- 10/25 Mark Cuban told some reporters that the Mavs will retired Derek
Harper's #12 this season - no date (or official announcement) has been set
yet. [Really interesting (and long over due) since D.J. Kennedy was
actually wearing #12 during preseason (the first time I can recall that
happening). Harp is the only Mav to have worn #12.]
- 10/25 Finished the 2013 preseason with a record of 4-4.
- 10/25 In a preseason game, Indiana defeated Dallas 98-77 in Dallas.
It was another disappointing preseason game for the Mavs (though this time
the opponent was at almost full strength) as the Mavs only played one good
quarter (out-scoring Indiana 23-14 in the 2nd quarter) and looked aweful
in the 2nd half with poor shooting and poor defense. Behind 16 points and
4 assists by Paul George during the rally, Indiana managed to convert a
43-51 deficit 4 minutes into the 3rd quarter into an 82-66 lead 4 minutes
into the 4th quarter [if you don't want to do the math, that's a 39-15
run]. Indiana out-scored Dallas 59-36 in the 2nd half as Indiana shot
almost 50% FG while Dallas was just over 35% FG in the half. Dirk
Nowitzki had 14 points including 4-12 FG and 5 rebounds and Shawn Marion
had 10 points and 6 rebounds. For Indiana, Paul George had 28 points, 6
rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals and Roy Hibbert had 14 points and 8
rebounds. The DNPs: Devin Harris (left foot surgery), Shane Larkin
(fractured right ankle), Brandan Wright (fractured left shoulder), Danny
Granger (Ind, strained left calf)
- 10/23 In a preseason game, Dallas defeated Atlanta 98-88 in Dallas.
Though preseason, it was a bit of a disappointment as Atlanta was missing
so many key players and Dallas was playing key players higher minutes than
in previous preseason games including starters playing in the 4th quarter
- it should have been a blow-out, but Atlanta was hanging around the
whole game. 6 straight points near the end of the game gave Dallas their
largest lead at 12 points. Atlanta started shooting well (11-19 in the
1st quarter) but cooled down and finished at just 44% FG. Dallas again
saw a large difference at the line in shooting just 7-9 FT while Atlanta
shot 18-25 FT. Dirk Nowitzki had 17 points including 1-6 3-pointers and
Monta Ellis had 15 points, 5 assists, and 6 turnovers (very high for him).
For Atlanta, Dennis Schroder had 21 points, 4 assists, and 7 turnovers and
Mike Scott had 19 points. The DNPs: Devin Harris (left foot surgery),
Shane Larkin (fractured right ankle), Brandan Wright (fractured left
shoulder), Gustavo Ayon (Atl, right shoulder injury), Louis Williams (Atl,
right knee rehab), Al Horford (Atl, mild right hamstring strain), Paul
Millsap (Atl, sore left Achilles), Kyle Korver (Atl, personal reasons).
- 10/22 Dallas released Renaldo Balkman, Devin Ebanks, D.J. Kennedy,
and Fab Melo.
- 10/21 In a preseason game, Houston defeated Dallas 100-95 in
Houston. Houston went on an 11-2 run near the end of the 2nd quarter and
led 55-51 at the half. The 3rd quarter stayed close and Houston scored
the last 5 points of the quarter (over the last 2:40) to take a 5 point
lead after 3. Dirk Nowitzki was called for a flagrant foul level 2
(ejection) with 25 seconds left in the quarter. Although Dallas did not
play any starters in the 4th quarter, they did not go with the deep
reserves and camp fodder for most of the quarter and Houston played a
number of their key players until 5 minutes into the quarter. It was
close at the end, but fortunately no overtime. Jose Calderon had 14
points and Samuel Dalembert had 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
For Houston, James Harden had 19 points including 4-5 3-pointers and
7 turnovers and Dwight Howard had 15 points and 17 rebounds including 6
offensive. The DNPs: Devin Harris (left foot surgery), Shane Larkin
(fractured right ankle), Brandan Wright (fractured left shoulder), Marcus
Camby (Hou, plantar fascitis), Terrence Jones (Hou, strained shoulder).
- 10/19 In a preseason game, Dallas defeated Charlotte 89-83 in
Greensboro, North Carolina. Dallas went on a 23-6 run from midway through
the 2nd quarter to a couple minutes into the 3rd quarter to take a 14
point lead and never trailed the rest of the way. The 4th quarter again
saw bench players and camp fodder for Dallas (while Charlotte played some
of their starters), but for a change they were able to build some on
Dallas' lead until Charlotte scored the last 9 points of the game.
Jose Calderon played in his first preseason game (having missed the first
4 games due to a strained left hamstring). Calderon had 13 points and 5
assists in 21 minutes and Shawn Marion had 13 points and 8 rebounds. For
Charlotte, Cody Zeller had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Kemba Walker had
12 points including 5-15 FG.
The DNP's: Dirk Nowitzki (rest), Devin Harris (left foot surgery),
Shane Larkin (fractured right ankle), Ricky Ledo (sprained ankle), Ben
Gordon (Cha, right knee discomfort), Brendan Haywood (Cha, stress fracture
left foot), Al Jefferson (Cha).
- 10/16 In a preseason game, Dallas defeated Indiana 92-85 in
Indiana. The Mavs used an 18-0 run spanning the 2nd and 3rd quarters to
take and 18 point lead and led comfortably after 3. Again it was mostly
the deep reserves and camp fodder for Dallas in the 4th quarter and the
Indiana reserves were able to make it a tight game, but there was just
enough of a cushion for the Mavs to hold on for the win (with Indiana
out-scored Dallas 25-13 in the 4th). Indiana decided before the game to
rest 4 of their key players (they had just returned from games in China)
and lost Danny Granger to a strained calf in the 1st quarter [so it was a
game Dallas should have won]. Shawn Marion had 18 points and 11 rebounds
and Monta Ellis had 13 points including 5-7 FG, 9 assists, and 3 steals.
For Indiana, Luis Scola had 14 points including 5-15 FG and Lance
Stephenson had 13 points and 6 rebounds. The DNP's: Vince Carter (rest),
Jose Calderon (strained left hamstring), Devin Harris (left foot surgery),
Shane Larkin (fractured right ankle), Ricky Ledo (sprained ankle), Roy
Hibbert (Ind, rest), George Hill (Ind, rest), David West (Ind, rest),
Paul George (Ind, bronchitis).
- 10/14 The NBA suspended Devin Ebanks for 2 games after he
pleaded no contest to a DWI charge. The suspension will occur for his
first regular season game [with which ever team he is with and when, as he
is unlikely to be on Dallas' opening day roster].
- 10/14 In a preseason game, Orlando defeated Dallas 102-94 in
Dallas. It was an ugly 1st quarter and the Mavs were down by 20 points
early partly due to very poor shooting before they finally started scoring
(scoring 9 points in the last 100 seconds of the quarter). Dallas scored
12 straight points to take a 62-55 lead midway through the 3rd quarter .
Orlando did score the next 8 points and the game stayed close. Once
again, Dallas wasn't going for the win and the deep reserves and camp
fodder played the 4th quarter and Orlando out-scored them 30-21 in the
quarter. Dirk Nowitzki played well and had 24 points including 9-14 FG
and 3 blocks and Monta Ellis had 16 points and 5 assists (and no other Mav
was in double-diggits - but no Mav played more than 28 minutes). For
Orlando, Maurice Harkless had 16 points and Victor Oladipo had 12 points
and 11 rebounds.
- 10/10 Brandan Wright is out indefinitely after an MRI reveled a
non-displaced fracture in his left shoulder. He is not expected to
undergo surgery but will probably be out at least 2 weeks.
- 10/9 In a preseason game, Dallas defeated Memphis 95-90 in Memphis.
The Mavs played a cleaner game with less slippy turnovers than the first
game. Dallas pulled away in the 3rd quarter (holding a 23 point led in
the quarter) and led by 15 after 3. They again went with the deep
reserves and camp fodder for the entire 4th quarter, which resulted in a
closer game as Memphis scored the first 17 points of the quarter (taking
their only lead of the game). 5 straight Dallas points with 3 minutes
left ended a tie game and Dallas was able to hang on to the win. Dallas
again shot well in shooting over 50% FG through 3 quarter (dropped to
45.6% FG for the game due to the poor 4th quarter). Dirk Nowitzki had 20
points (including 11 in the 3rd quarter on 4-4 FG, 2-2 3-pointers, and 1-1
FT (on a 4-point play)) and 6 rebounds in 24 minutes and Monta Ellis
continued to play well with 11 points and 8 assists. Samuel Dalembert had
11 points and 7 rebounds and Vince Carter had 12 points. For Memphis, Ed
Davis had 10 points including 2-10 FT and 10 rebounds (but poor defense as
Dirk continually scored on him) and Jon Leuer had 17 points, 10 rebounds,
and 5 assists. Dallas was playing without Brandan Wright (sore left
shoulder), Jose Calderon (strained left hamstring), Shane Larkin
(fractured right ankle), and Devin Harris (left foot surgery) and Memphis
was without Marc Gasol, Kosta Koufos, and Tayshaun Prince.
- 10/7 In a preseason game, New Orleans defeated Dallas 94-92 in
Dallas. It was an ugly early preseason game with lots of sloppy turnovers
(28 by Dallas) and the minutes were spread out as no Mav played more than
25 minutes. Despite being a close game, Dallas went with their reserves
and some camp fodder all of the 4th quarter (while Anthony Davis was
playing in the 4th until one of his teammates rolled into his leg and
New Orleans immediately pulled him and he sat the rest of the game - he
looked to be okay, with just a minor tweeked knee).
Monta Ellis had some nice plays and passes and finished with
13 points and 7 assists and Brandan Wright had 14 points. For New
Orleans, Davis had 25 points including 11-19 FG and 7 rebounds and Brian
Roberts had 17 points. Jose Calderon (strained left hamstring), Devin
Harris (left foot surgery), Shane Larkin (fractured right ankle),
Tyreke Evans (NO, left ankle), Eric Gordon (NO), and Darius Miller (NO, left
foot) did not play
- 10/4 In the team's annual Blue-White scrimmage, the Blue team
defeated the White team 31-15 in a 20 minute scrimmage. The Blue team
consisted of Vince Carter, Shawn Marion, Samuel Dalembert, Wayne
Ellington, Bernard James, REnaldo Balkman, Wayne Ellington, Mickey
McConnell, and Fab Melo. The White team consisted of Dirk Nowitzki,
Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, Monta Ellis, DeJuan Blair, Gal Mekel, D.J.
Kennedy, and Devin Ebanks. Jose Calderon (strained left hamstring), Shane
Larkin (fractured right ankle), and Devin Harris (left foot surgery) did
not play.
