News from February 3

Don Haskins (UTEP coach), Pete Carril (Princeton coach), Alex English 
(Denver player), Bailey Howell (12 years in the NBA), Denise Curry (UCLA
player), Joan Crawford (Amateur Athletic Union player), and Antonio 
Diaz-Miguel (Spanish coach) were elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame.
The nominees needed 18 of 24 votes from the Honors Committee to be 
inducted.  The induction ceremony will take place September 29.

The NBA named Glen Rice (Cha) as Player of the Week.  Rice averaged 36.8
points while shooting 57% FG, 14-25 3-pointers, and 39-45 FT as Charlotte
went 3-1.

The NBA named Derek Fisher (LAL) to replace Stephon Marbury (Min) for the
Rookie Game to take place February 8 in Cleveland.  Marbury is suffering
from a right thigh bruise.

Toronto signed Reggie Slater for the rest of the season.

Denver signed Kenny Smith for the rest of the season.
