The Personal Side of Polly Brown Although I have lived in the Northwest for over twenty years I was born in Britain to British parents and spent my early years through to the teens in South Africa and Iran. I went to high school in England and graduated from college to teach at the high school level. Since marrying my engineer husband, I have lived in New York State, Connecticut, California, Pennsylvania, and Washington State. Although I have enjoyed every state, I particularly love Washington. Victor, my husband, and I are keen back-packers and hikers. Washington state offers an abundance of outdoor opportunities from deserts to rain forests, and from mountains to sea. Although we used to scuba dive and ski, we now spend our limited free time snow-shoeing and backpacking. Our family Y.M.C.A. http://www.tacomaymca.org in Tacoma is one of the finest in the nation and I have exercised there and been a volunteer in various capacities since 1979. It, too, offers a variety of programs for young and old and activities including mountain-wall climbing, scuba-diving, ballet and aikido! I have been a volunteer in the Public Schools, at the State Historical Society, Tacoma Actors Guild and with the youth Symphony. Involvement in these along with my attendance at community meetings, has given me a comprehensive knowledge of Tacoma.
