(switch-to-buffer) changes the ;; window/buffer association, which is a perfectly reasonable thing for code ;; to do in the middle of doing other stuff. The problem arises when ;; jiggle-buffer-switch-hook is run by the invocation of (switch-to-buffer), ;; causing a (sit-for) in the middle of what the code is doing, typically ;; causing unwanted momentary screen displays. ;; There may be a fundamentally superior approach. There should be a ;; jiggle-buffer-switch-idle-hook complementing ;; jiggle-buffer-switch-hook. When jiggle-mode is turned on, instead of ;; putting jiggle-cursor in jiggle-buffer-switch-hook, it should put it ;; in jiggle-buffer-switch-idle-hook. There should be a nonrepeating ;; jiggle-buffer-switch-idle-timer, & a function that loading this file ;; puts into jiggle-buffer-switch-hook [sic] that activates that timer to run ;; after a short idle time (such as .25 s). That would eliminate both ;; multiple & intermediate jiggles. But it'd be nice if ;; they were empty by default. ;;;; ----------------------- MINOR ENHANCEMENTS ------------------------ ;;;; ;; A day after I posted the first version of jiggle.el to gnu.emacs.sources, ;; somebody e-mailed back "excellent!", & a week after that, somebody else ;; posted to gnu.emacs.help a complaint about the same problem (giving no ;; indication they'd seen this package), & a fourth person (counting me) ;; posted yet another solution to the problem, that one involving a repeating ;; timer that rotated cursor colors. So obviously this is a problem a lot of ;; people have faced, one that should have a solution built in to Emacs. ;; I didn't like the color rotator myself because it turns the screen into a ;; damn Nadermas tree, & is distracting when the cursor isn't actually being ;; searched for. I prefer to use color to indicate minor modes like ;; overwrite-mode. But this is just a matter of taste, & Emacs should be ;; able to support all variations. ;; Perhaps this package should be generalized to cursor.el, including ;; jigglers, color rotators, blinkers, shape shifters, & anything else ;; anybody wants to contribute.
