The menu, the staff, the ambiance, and the chef all give the impression that they know how to prepare real
Italian food, and all indications are that this is one of the top places in El Paso. With my limited experience
with it I cannot yet say that my rating of the restaurant is completely accurate, but I am sure that it deserves
to be in the five star category.
The chef came into the dining area to discuss with me what I would like and what he could make (a good sign). He could not, however, make spinach lasagna due to the fact that they had run out of spinach (a bad sign, but good in that you know at least the spinach is fresh). I ended up with Cacciatore Sauce on Spaghetti, one of my favorite meals, and something that is not on the menu. I thought it had a little too many spices, and not quite enough sauce, but overall very good with fresh vegetables. My main disappointment was that salad is not served automatically with the meal (thus I think Il Posto is a better value, and the food is about equal to Fratello's). I would like to have given Fratello's another try, since it's not everywhere in El Paso that one can find spaghetti cacciatore, spinach lasagna, and other interesting menu and off-the-menu items. |
