The menu largely consists of upscale burgers, sandwiches, and salads, done with a European flair. Actually I think
almost all dishes are not standard menu items, but are creations of the chef--sort of a combination of American
and Continental food.
My choice was a Portobello Sandwich, partly because I have ordered many from the Kern Place Market and I wanted to make a comparison. Consisting of marinated portobello mushrooms, artichoke hearts, tomatoes, and pesto on grilled focaccia, it was more of a cacophony of flavors than the artful blend I had found at KPM. Granted, I've only tried one thing, but the restaurant itself is also not very inviting for a return visit. Every table fits two persons, and all are lined up in a row down one side of the room. I got the distinct impression that families, large groups, and single people are not welcome (something I never experienced even in the "hippest" restaurants in Seattle). It's just a very strange place, and there must be something going on that I don't understand, because I sure do not think it's the food. One thing I will say, though, is that Sä Vah has about the best music of any restaurant I've been to. |
